If you want a decent MBA then you need to do it properly and fork out the best part of £50,000 for one at INSEAD or similar.

That, and you need a good few years of business experience on top of your undergrad degree.

Bit of a tangent this thread has gone off on!

Sending someone off to university to live on their own, make new friends, organise themselves usually leads to a lot of growing up - especially if they're forced to budget for themselves and so on and so forth. Someone mentioned a degree with a sandwich year - this is a great idea because it will give your son an opportunity to experience working for someone else. As long as he manages to find a placement for himself and doesn't think he can cruise along and expect you or your contacts to provide him with one.

50k for what?

An MBA at a world-class business school.

Agreed.

But DiamondMark should just forget the word MBA was ever mentioned. You don't need an MBA to get some business knowledge sufficient to one day take over the family business.

If he fancied himself as CEO of Burgerland Inc one day, then an MBA might be the way to go. But he doesnt, so dont worry about it.

Exactly. But as you mentioned earlier in the thread, I suspect there was a misunderstanding when the term 'MBA' was used.

Seriously though, if you go somewhere like INSEAD, you're pretty much set for life.

Im intrigued now, whats this INSEAD thing then like a school with built in super network of contacts?

When I suggested an MBA I wasn't for a minute thinking of INSEAD, nor was I thinking it would be at all necessary or even a good idea to spend 50k on it. I was just thinking of what you would get from a decent university. I don't think you can even study with INSEAD in the UK tbh.

I know you weren't. I said that if you want to do an MBA, you should do it properly.
If you want to study at INSEAD then you go to one of their campuses, of course you can't study with them in the UK..

Take his 320i off him and give him a Fiat Grande Punto 1.2.

Then tell him when he graduates with a 2:1 or higher, you will gift him a Boxster S.

Watch that degree come.

This

even better, buy the Boxster S and leave it sat on the drive as a reminder.

Well no, I do know what an MBA is. All I am guilty of is perhaps ...overspeccing a touch.

of course you can't study with them in the UK..
...pfff well it's not actually as obvious as you make it sound, most people probably haven't even heard of INSEAD, I don't know much about them and I didn't know for sure that you couldn't study with them in the UK yesterday when I wrote that, I just guessed since I recalled hearing in passing of people going elsewhere in the world to study with them. You make it sound like it's something 'everyone' just knows.

Here you go, this is why you have to have Porsches inspected, that one we went to look at for my son has got about 4k of work coming up soon, maybe 5.

So that was 350 quid well spent.

Deftly dodged bullet then eh, £350 seems awfully expensive for an inspection though.

It takes a few hours they interrogate the ecu for over revs and whatever else (although that dosent happen with tiptronics) and go right over the car.

This one needs disks all round soon, a service and some suspension is ready for a change plus a set of tyres.

If he can get insurance and fancies it he can have a go at this Maserati if he wants **** it.

Which might not be a bad shout Mark. Thought about getting him to repay the Maser bit by bit?

Man, my kids are 4 and 1. Worries me when they hit Car buying age :D

If he has that he wont owe much, he can probably get 10-12 for his selling it, so it wont be much he can just pay that.

Its the insurance, theres just no sense in those 5k premiums its a farce.

Anyway i'l tell him tonight when he gets home from work he can get some quotes.

5k  Was thinking along the lines of 2k insurance plus 10-12k for the car.

Sheer noseyness...thinking about relocating to spain when you hit the 5-0, whereabouts?
