UFC 119: Mir vs. Cro Cop

No one said they could do better so thats a pretty useles comment to make.

ufc 119 looked really good on paper but the fights on the night were very lackluster.

Frank Mir vs. Cro Cop - Boring fight up until a single knee to end the fight.

Antônio Rogério Nogueira vs. Ryan Bader - Bader knew he couldnt knock nog out or submit him so went for the judges decision insted.

Matt Serra vs. Chris Lytle - Fight of the night but serra never looked dangerous

Sean Sherk vs. Evan Dunham - dunham should have won this fight so many times, but left it down to the judges who had a very hard job to do.

Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens - Both fighters looked as if they simply didnt want to win was very unimpressed.

i had no problems with Serra vs Lytle that was a good fight, they both went for it.

Dunham vs Sherk was good, I didn't agree with the decision but I can see how it happened.

Guillard vs Stephens I thought was good, Guillard is so fast, Stephens should have put more pressure on him but he didn't and paid for it.

Nog vs Bader, I get so infuriated with the takedown scoring system, apart from the 1st his takedowns achieved nothing and Nog bounced up. Nog was stalking him going for the finish but lost due to takedowns :(

Mir vs Crocop was the big letdown, Crocop needs to hang up his gloves his killer instinct is gone.

well the last 2 fights which are usually the main ones were a bore fest, luckily the earlier ones were pretty good.
im so surprised matt sera didn't take attempt to take him to the ground when he was getting a battering on his feet.

oh and dunham got robbed.

Yeah, that was a fairly dull event. I'm a big fan of Crocop but he needs to hang up his gloves now. He just doesn't have the look of someone who wants to be fighting. I'll also add that Mir wasn't very impressive either.
I see Brock is back in action in UFC 121 :).

Yup, he's going to be losing his belt to Cain Valasquez.

I hope so. Cain will not gas like Carwin did. But I think the sheer size of Lesnar is a huge problem for anyone. Cain isn't a BIG heavyweight by any stretch of the imagination.
If Cain can avoid the shot. His superior kickboxing should win him the fight. Especially if he is as crisp and fluent as he was against BigNog

Wow. I see hardly anyone in this thread appreciates MMA. "Bad event" Yes Ok then? So you lot could do better could you?

Yes. I'd get knocked the **** out which was something this event was missing apart from the Mir / Cro Cop fight.

The highlight of the event was the Sherk / Dunham fight and even that was ****ed up by the judges.

Frank Mir is a stud. Frank Mir the Jiu-Jitsu artist KOing a K1 level kickboxer... Screw all the Mir haters and Pride nuthuggers

Yes, Frank Mir has K1 level striking... Either that or Frank Mir beat an aging legend who took the fight on 5 weeks notice, had an eye injury, and was about a million miles from the beast that destroyed so many other fighters in PRIDE. He also looked absolutely awful doing it. I'll respect Mir when he wins a striking battle with somebody like JDS, which will be round about, never.

Also, Pride nuthugger? Seriously? Is there something wrong with being a fan of fighters that came from Pride? Are they some how not as good as fighters that came from the UFC or something? Jesus, its not like a WWE vs WCW brand war, its a sport, people like decent fighters no matter what organisation they came from. If you can't find some respect inside for legends of the sport like Mirko Cro Cop then your not a true fan of the sport.

Ok so you obviously didn't watch Mir destroy Kongo

Mir landed a good punch on Kongo and finished him, it wasnt a destruction by any means, he didnt systematically pick him apart, he landed a good shot and capitalised. Its a good win, but to call it a destruction is laughable.

Wow. I see hardly anyone in this thread appreciates MMA. "Bad event" Yes Ok then? So you lot could do better could you?

And this confirms the fact you're trolling. So you're not allowed to criticise a sporting event unless you can do better? Well, guess we might as well close the sports forum down all together then, since there wont be much going on.

Also, this was without a doubt a bad event, and I will tell you why.

Guilard vs Stephens - A poor mans kick boxing match, Guilard an explosive striker who is not afraid to engage, has been transformed into a jab and run merchant almost as bad as Kalib Starnes, well done Greg Jackson, you rock.

Sherk vs Dunham - Fantastic fight, one that any MMA fan would appreciate.

Serra vs Lytle - Again, a poor mans kickboxing match. I'm not one who subscribes to this whole 'stand and bang' thing- as long as people leave it all in the Octagon then I dont care how they bring it. This wasnt a good fight, Lytle was dominating from the opening bell, Serra was chasing him looking for that knockout punch, at no point did he switch it up, take him down, kick the leg, hell butt scoot towards him if you have to, but its supposed to be mixed martial arts and your a blackbelt in BJJ, if your striking isnt working do something different.

Lil Nog vs Bader - I actually fell asleep, this was awful. Bader admitted in interviews that he was trying to avoid engaging to often in case he got caught, he was clearly only there to grind out a decision. Lil Nog couldnt really do much, Baders wrestling was stifling his boxing, and Bader was completely in control of where the fight ended up, Nog was never going to take Bader down, but Bader was able to take Nog down at will. It was a one sided fight, Bader was in complete control but did nothing with it, snooze.

Cro Cop vs Mir - Cro Cop didnt look himself, he hasnt looked himself for a long time, and he almost had enough to take Mir to a decision, that proves just how awesome Mir's striking is. Mir looked sloppy, for somebody who has been working on his wrestling it was awful, he didnt show anything either. Against a real Top 5 HW both of these guys would be in trouble.

You call that a good event then?

Disappointing night of fights in all honesty. The slugfest of Lytle and Serra should have been so much more if Serra used ANY BJJ at all.

Mir vs Cro Cop was a joke. Cro Cop should just give up.

Guillard is just mini-Rashad. Enough said right there.

Cro cop has been gun-shy ever since Gonzaga took his head clean off his shoulders. His days are long, long gone now, he should think about hanging them up.

Considering so many fights went to decision I found the event quite entertaining (the "main" event aside of course)
