LOTRO now free to play!

Release date for F2P EU has been shifted to a pretty vague "we hope to have it in a few weeks"

No real reasons given for the delay but with the silence and the previous claims that the infrastructure and such was in place i'm leaning towards it being a disupte over how much cash from buying points goes to Turbine.

Turbine have recently been bought out by Warner Brothers, so I'm guessing any delay is due to board-room shenanigans. It's been a nightmare on DDO recently :/

I'm guessing they sorting the lag issues out before it gets released to EU for free, aloads of lag yesterday late afternoon :p

Ooh.. f2p must be imminent then, as they said that welcome back would last until f2p.

Yeah I noticed quite a bit yesterday too, perhaps they are doing hot work on the servers in preparation for f2p

Wouldn't surprise me....But to do it while the servers are online? :p

Pretty much everyone got that spike, lasted a good 30 seconds or so

Going to download and install this when I get home.

Sorry for being lazy, anyone got a decent download link for the EU client? :p

Played the trial about a year ago, got fairly into it, has the game changed much? And am I right in thinking this game is fairly stressful compared to WoW and other MMO's? If I recall correctly it used to have my 4850 stretching it's legs at a low res :p

It's not too bad, especially if you stick with the DX9 option, but it is a lot more resource hungry than WoW.

Mind you, a 4850 shouldn't really have a problem with it. I seem to remember one or two options that would destroy the framerate - enabling vsync was one, and there were one or two others that did nothing noticable graphically but knackered your fps.

I can play it fine on my core i2 laptop with 3gb ram and a mobile 512mb graphics card, still looks pretty even though it's not the high res texture pack. My legs tend to burn after a while though :(

The latest heard was in a couple of weeks time, they haven't said what the issues are causing the delays. As said above though, your trial won't end, all accounts are free to play until the f2p client goes live, you'll just have to decide which 2 characters on your trial account you want to be able to play when it turns to f2p

Ah ok well thats good, im a noob at this game played a bit of wow, was wondering what crafting skills i should learn and where do u learn them? ive just come out of the training area and im a level 8 elf champion, is the crafting like wow? thanks

You should get a quest that directs you to your starter crafting area pretty soon after you exit the starter instance. The guy you want is the Master of Apprentices, who gives you your crafting professions and explains what each one does. When you do pick one, you get a leaflet in your inventory telling you exactly what you have to do to get started.

Additional recipes are available from the NPCs in the crafting area.
