the UK!

i will do most of my shopping online. i dislike shopping in shops in the UK for the best part because it is not a very personal experience. same with bars in this country. in other parts of europe, i can sit outside of a bar in lovely surroundings and receive proper customer service, not the in/out service i receive over here.

Go live in Italy, France or Spain and then let me know how wonderfully you were treated in shops/restaurants.

Oh and bars don't count, you do realise waiters in bars work for tips right?

i've been to all of those countries and had a better shopping experience. i know they work for tips, i got a great service and they got a tip

i dothink a lot of people dont take into account congestion when discussing the state of our roads.

we are a small island with a relatively large population - france has an extra 5 illion people but, what?, an extra 2/3 the space?

also people need to take into account that a disproportionately large number of people reside in the south.

at the end of the day that doesnt make things better but it is an adequate excuse.

Really, having covered massive distance in Florida, I can only dream of similar glossy smooth tarmac like that here. I didn't see or hit one pothole, of course, my 205/95 R16 tyres might have soaked up a lot of it.

France, they just have it soooooooo right when it comes to roads

Not what I found in California, Nevada, Arizona, Massachusetts or New York. I was glad they were not my cars!

You get similar moans in car reviews in American press about low profile tyres and how they often don't suit the typical highway.

A lot of them are badly degraded block concrete surfaces as well.

Perhaps it's not so much the roadnetworks that are bad, more the road users. Uk drivers are thick and hog lanes which causes massive congestions.

Roads in Florida are "spot on" but then again i bet Disney pay for much of the highways to be maintained so for this and other reasons i doubt it's representative of the rest of the USA.

it is. i've driven around NY (city and upstate) and the midwest aswell as florida state and the roads were great both toll and regular.

i haven't been to other parts of the US though

I had a similar experience in Germany. After reading tales of unlimited Autobahns, and cars hammering along them, I arrived expecting billiard table smooth, wide and straight roads.

The reality was patchy surfaces and mostly 2 lanes. Our motorways seemed much better quality (although German drivers were far batter).
