LOTRO now free to play!

You should get a quest that directs you to your starter crafting area pretty soon after you exit the starter instance. The guy you want is the Master of Apprentices, who gives you your crafting professions and explains what each one does. When you do pick one, you get a leaflet in your inventory telling you exactly what you have to do to get started.

Additional recipes are available from the NPCs in the crafting area.

They only help so much!

Apparently I need some leather hides or something to make some shoulder pads...but i can't!!! Can't by nor find them...

And I can't access the auction house because i 'don't have a retail copy' :p Same with the post box!

Hides are dropped by beasts, so wolves, bears etc. You then use the Forester crafting skill to turn the hides into Leather.

So can I be a forrester and a tailor? =/

Yup, if you pick the Explorer profession, that gives you the skills of Forester, Tailor and Prospector... so you can kill beasts, tailor up their leathers and mine ore to sell on the AH for ooooooodles of money. Well..ok...not the AH part in your case of course :D

Yeah, why is that? Why can't i? How are you supposed to trial a game if you cant even try all aspects? :p

Also, how do i wash the hides then?

I imagine its a preventative measure against gold farmers and the such from just whacking out trial accounts and spamming stuff on the AH :)

Once you have the Forester crafting skill , you can open your crafting window and you'll see the various "recipes", one of the first ones is to turn hides into leathers. You'll need a workbench to do it at, you can find those at a crafting hall or many large towns.

Oh and I should also mention that the Forester skill also lets you collect wood, which you can also whack onto the AH for ooooodles of money (well.... normally of course :) )

Woop, made a few little bits, shame I cant customize the colour yet :(

My names Glorian in game if anyone see's me wondering around aimlessly :p

Ive just made my self some bit aswell just made myself some medium leather padded armour which was better then the stuff i had on

I found most of the stuff you make is better at lower levels, unless you've fond something good.

Only problem is the colours are naff!

Crafting is actually useful at most levels of the game, I really like it in that regard. You want a scholar alt for dying your clothes :)
