Searching for an FPS like Half Life 2 + Expansions

Hi, I'm looking for an FPS with a good storyline and decent action with fun gameplay like the Half Life series had.

Any suggestions? Old and New. (by old I mean no older than HL 2.)

Painkiller for good story? Found it really repetative to be honest. Wave after wave of spawning enemies and just blasting over and over again. Its hardly half life in that its story driven with puzzles and different gameplay. The massive boss fights are awesome though.

Bioshock would be a good one although will feel clostrophobic compared to half lifes open areas. Story deserves a go through though.

Red Faction Guerilla maybe? Not really very deep but has some decent gameplay mechanics i.e. blowing buildings up.

Singularity is a good call, obviously not as good as HL2 but still a very good game.

Red Faction Guerilla? Barely even the same genre as Half Life 2.

I'd say Fallout 3 but it's not really just an FPS, and the story can be a little flakey in places, especially right at the end. I've heard the DLC for it introduces some interesting subplots though.

The OPs issue is that theres nothing that is like half life 2. Its like asking for a Deus Ex replacement or something similar. Its such a good game, we can name countless other great games but it wont be the same type of game.

Cant remember the release date but im going to put forward Tribes: Vengeance. Twisting story and fun gameplay.

I'm going post a negative post now and say that you will never find another FPS anywhere near as good as HL2. I did a full re-playthough of all the HL's a few months ago and it's astounding how good they still are, especially HL2.

Bioshock wouldn't be a bad place to start.

Stalker Soc with complete mod is very, very good though. As is cod mw 1.

For story I'd recommend Mass Effect games and while they aren't straight FPS they can be played as one.

Bioshock 1 & 2. Very story driven, especially the second. Pretty much the second best games I've played, after the HL games

Doom 3 had a story? I thought the aim of the game was to walk from 1 Door with Imp hiding behind it to another?

Has the OP tried Portal? Not exactly 'action' per se but you can't get more epic than Portal... especially with Portal 2 coming soon.
