Death of Xfire

And probably about 10'000 still using it :p

Steam is easier as it holds all your games as well.

More like 500k+

It's not dead at all a new company bought it and they are still being trained I think, im sure we will get updates soon

I've still got it installed, but my only use is to quickly log on there for a friend to send me a file or something that they don't want to upload elsewhere.

Why do you want to stack your games stats anyway? Just makes you feel sad when you realise you've spent 5000 hours playing modern warfare 2 etc.

I don't think xfire has ever supported games upon release, it's usually days or a week or so at most after they are released.
To me xfire has always been as popular as it was, and because of the new owners and server move it's just taking a little bit longer.

If your that bothered manually add the games to the xfire config file.

Steam does not do everything Xfire does. Where's the video recording? And the game time statistics records? Sure Steam has some form of game time records, but only for games that are only avaliable on the store or part of system itself. The external shortcut "Non-Steam" games don't count.

Because some people, like myself, actually like to a keep record of what games they've played (As long as it is supported), no matter no many hours it says. Who cares if it is sad? No different to people who care about achievements.

Er... broadcasting support?

I don't see the point in Xfire except keeping track of your hours played but then Steam started doing that last year too. Doesn't work when games run external to steam (such as launching Fallout 3 via FOSE) which is a pain but i can live with it. *shrug* maybe if you don't like/use steam but then there aren't many pc gamers who don't.

Shaolin... registered users is meaningless. I have a registered Xfire account but i can't remember the last time i actually used it.

Yes broadcasting support.
i can play a game & my friends & anyone on xfire can watch as i play in realtime & i can see how many people are watching me play.

And file p2p transfer is useful as well.

My overlay point is also valid as i use them while playing the games mainly the clock & sometimes the FPS counter & browser but with steam i lose game control.

The last point & this one is important in regards to you, where did i mention that i didn't like using steam, I use xfire & steam friends just as much as each other but i need both to get everything that i need & i have over 100 games on steam.

Try not to do here what happens to often in the GPU as i was only pointing out features & abilities of each that i find useful.

I'll have to add to the above that there are still some games, Steam based or non-Steam that still have overlay problems, especially when the mouse is concerned i.e. sometimes it screws up some button clicking, it is held down etc. So it's not all perfect. And yes I also use both Steam and Xfire at the same time, so I'm not alligned with either single one.

Raptr is better.

This one is interesting.

Might give it a try since it also supports the Consoles.

Isn't broadcasting almost eavesdropping ><

Its unlikely enough people even know of its existence otherwise steam may of added it in some shape or form. After all they do have a suggestions section on their forum and if it got enough internet people might use it.

An on screen clock is pretty meaningless. You can bring up and close the steam overlay in a fraction of a second to view the time or alternatively just wear a watch or have a clock nearby... but losing game control? Seriously how does it matter? You can't type in a chat window and still play at the same time anyway. Ok there are some instances where it would have an effect but if you have an urgent conversation going where you can't spare a few moments in game to reply then perhaps your attention is in the wrong place.

And that wasn't directed at you... just a general comment regarding why someone might ultimately prefer not to use steam.

Look I will make it simple for you & try to be polite as possible.
I'm not here to discus what you find useful, I'm telling you what & why i use them, what you think of those features in regards to me is irrelevant, those features exist & i like using them in the way i see fit & i find you telling me how to go about my computing business extremely Arrogant.

Raptr is better.

I discovered Raptr just the other day after getting annoyed with the lack of day 1 support for two such large releases, while Raptr supports them, as well as several more. It does most of the things Xfire does, such as multi-protocol messaging, including MSN, AIM, Steam and others. Its also created by one of Xfire's co-founders. You can also point it to your steam and GfWL profiles and it keeps track of your achievements if you like that sort of thing. And a large plus is that you can point it at your xfire profile and it grabs all of the time spent playing games on Xfire and imports it into Raptr, so you don't lose all that 'history'.
The only thing it lacks compared to Xfire is the screenshot and video options.

My profile, for example.

Xfire is still active for the retro gamers, but i dont see it moving forward.

Anyone remember ASE - The All Seeing Eye?
