I finally got around to doing it, today I've taken delivery of an OCZ SSD for my Mac Pro.

Sadly I won't get a chance to fit it this evening but I'm somewhat looking forward to doing it tomorrow after work :)

Sweet! Welcome to the ssd side of life :D

Got a c300 in my mbp and osx is so quick now! Almost all applications load in one or two bounces on the dock and start up times are so so fast now!

Do you do anything prior or after install??

Nah, just plugged it in (took AGES to get the screws that hold the old drive in place for it but a good pair of pliers sorted it out)

I found that doing boot camp was a bit awkward though, if your planning to do boot camp I had to make my osx the size I wanted it to be overall when I was doing the initial install as when I tried to do bootcamp the normal way it couldn't create a windows partition (as some key files were scattered). Not a bit problem at all, just things to remember to make all go smoothly :)

My plan is to plug the SSD into one of my drive bays, use SuperDuper! to clone my boot drive to the SSD, rename the SSD so it's the same as my current boot drive, remove the original, put the SSD into that drive bay and boot. That should be it, it'll take about ten minutes!

Famous last words :D

I want one for my Mac Mini. How big was the SSD, you bought?

I did get a chance to throw it in, but now I have to go out.

It's a 60Gb jobbie, the drive I bought is linked in the first post.

It feels very quick, the system booted very quickly, Photoshop CS5 appears in the dock, the icon just goes up and down once and it's there, loaded and ready to go.

Whoa

Hmm 60gb OS drive though....hmmm....I need bigger hard drives else where!

DAMN YOU FEEK!!

Scores about 25 more points than my 80Gb Intel G2!

I shall be getting one of the bigfoot drives in a few days, want a 180Gb one but if that isn't coming then a 120/240 might be the way forward :/

A 60Gb drive is more than enough for me for OS and applications as I'm only actually using 16Gb of space. I could have picked up a 40Gb SSD and that would have been plenty but I thought it was worth going that little bit extra for a buffer just in case. I have a couple of other 1Tb drives connected for data so it's a good combination.

It really is blindingly fast in use - I've only been home a few minutes now but I can tell straight away how quick this is in comparison. Opening applications is pretty much instantaneous. I've heard people say that before but until one experiences it, I don't think it's possible to realise just what a difference it makes. I know that if I ever replace the MBP that I sold that I'll just have to fit an SSD, a mechanical drive just won't be acceptable :D

Feek have you tried it with any video related data?

I'd love to know how these SSDs are for video work, but then they are expensive for the GB.

Ahhhh Feek, i only just sorted a deal with a MacBook Pro and you're already tempting me to stick my 100GB Vertex2 in there :D

Sounds like it's def worth a try though, esp for those lift-and-play moments :)

I've had an SSD (120GB Vertex) in my MBP for over a year and a half now. Although having 120GB seems a lot but you'll probably start using the machine in preference to the others due to the speed.. I had to have a purge recently as I'd got to 280MB free lol..
