Hey,

My sister's focus has bitten the dust, her local independant has diagnosed it as a seized engine.

She has bought another car now but needs to get rid of it. I have suggested sticking it on pistonheads as other than the seized engine it's a good car. how much would you say it's worth?

I think she could probably add a bit more onto it (to be haggled down again) rather than being knocked down from there? webuyanycar have offered her about £400 for it as is.

I dont think its worth anybodies time at £700 personally. With the mileage its worth maybe a couple of grand (selling price) working. Unless you could DIY fix it, its not economical to repair it unless the car was virtually free...
 
If I was buying I'd consider it worth a punt at under £300. Even at that point it's only borderline viable.

You'll get it for less than £700
Couple of hundred quid on a new (second hand) engine and oil, and a few hours of my time would see that running again. Gotta be worth £1500 at least working.

This car would need to be free. You cannot buy TDCI engines for "a couple of hundred quid".

The car is worth approximately £2000 working, with this mileage. The engine, labour, and time transporting this car make it completely non-viable at anything more than totally (or near as damnit) free.
 
I've just got off the phone to my mate who works at the scrappy near by, he's got 3 1.8tdci focii (sp?) in the yard all with working engines. Take my pick £150 if I come and take it out myself. Handy chap to know :)
I'll only b the head or block that's lunched, you can just swap everything straight to the new engine.
 
Why on earth would your "mate" be selling TDCI engines for £150? He is either being a very kind chap, or is a very bad businessman.

He's not selling them at that price, he's letting me have one for that price.
He is a very kind chap, i've known him 18 years, we share a passion for cars.
Whan he lunched the gearbox on the kit car I helped him with I gave him one of the two I had spare kicking around in the lockup from my kitcar.
And he's been great getting small bit's a nd bobs for the kitcar i'm building now, friends help each other out :)
