HTC Desire HD (Ace)

I think the HD has sold me on a new phone, I've been umming and aahhhing about which phone to get when my contract is up in October and who should pop out of hiding at just the right time :D

Anyone know if this runs at 850mhz on the HSDPA network? New Zealand has 850mhz and 2100mhz which is why I sold the galaxy s as it wouldnt work on high speed 850 :(

How about this for the best HD/contract deal?

> Quidco, £50 cashback.
> Buy Samsung Tocco lite from moblies.co.uk (Orange Dolphin 25 plan: 300mins, unlimited texts, 500MB)
> Get 23 months free on mobiles redemption
> Recycle Tocco for £40 (At this point you're £65 in credit :p)
> Buy sim free Desire HD for £450-£470

Final cost = £385, or £16pm...

Can anyone do any better? :D

What would happen if you paid the contract off early, would you still be entitled to the full redemption figure?

Those quadrant scores are interesting, the Z has similar performance to the standard desire. Battery life should be much improved! (hopefully :))

They've got different chips, the z has the msm7230 and the HD has a qsd82(something), most Qualcomm samples had these running at 1ghz for the msm and 1.3ghz for the qsd. Both have the same gpu and 45nm process so performance won't be too different in most real world applications.

Incorrect.

Both chips are 45nm:

  • Desire HD has MSM8255/MSM8655 (depending on network frequency) and is clocked at 1Ghz
  • Desire Z has MSM7230/MSM7630 (again depending on network frequency) and is clocked at 800Mhz

It literally is a slightly slower clocked chip with identical GPU. I cant see any reason to think they are any different (in essence) to a PC CPU and expect them to overclock quite nicely as they probably come out the same fab and off the same wafer.

Edit: Details here - http://www.qualcomm.com/products_services/chipsets/snapdragon.html

You've got to give it to T-Mobile and their instore staff. Both stores I've been into to check if there's any updates on a release date have gone like this:

"There is no HTC Desire HD, the update is the new Android. I think I'd know, the HTC rep was here a while ago and they'd have said something. Where did you see it? Oh the internet, well I don't use it."

It's on their very own website.

and

"The Desire HD is just a smaller Desire, it's not a bigger one.."

Head against a brick wall comes to mind..

I do like people that take pride in their work, going that extra mile to better themselves.

Did you go any further than that or just bow your head in sympathy?

Hehe yeah I had similar in the carphone warehouse a little while back.

Me: "Hi, just wondering if you have any guesses at the release date for the Milestone 2 and how much itll cost"

Them: "Milestone 2? Its not coming out over here, its a CDMA phone so it wont work in the UK"

Me: "No, thats the Droid 2, the Milestone 2 is a GSM phone due out sometime before xmas"

Them: "Nope, the phone doesnt exist and wont be coming out over here as it wont work on the UK networks"

DOH!

Just left it as it was, didn't fancy spending my lunch hour trying to train their staff. At least the person I spoke to at one of the T-Mobile centre's said they didn't really have any info but would give me a call back when they do.

I'm a little surprised how someone working in a phone shop could avoid phone rumours and news completely.

How does this even work? 23 months free on a 24 month contract? Has someone actully tried this and are sure it is legit?

You can't blame the t-mobile staff. Unless there geek like us folk. They won't know about it till there rep tells them. I work in a TV shop but a geek too and find things out before rep says anything.

well my contract with Tmobile has 1 day to run, so im going to roll it for a month and see what they offer me once they FINALLY have a date for the HD (neither renwals or genrals CS know anything about the phone despite it being listed on the site as 'coming soon' for a while)

Will see what deal i can get with them and run off to Vodafone if they pull the 'your already with us so why should we give you want to want' special.

I agree but if that's the case, surely 'I didn't know that, I'll check it out, thanks' is the correct answer, rather than flat out denial.

update for Tmobile, just phoned Tmobile for my PAC ref/to cancel and got through to a rather nice bloke.

He's expecting it to be released mid october and will call be back on the 14th to complete my order for the HD. Free phone, 900 minutes, unlimited texts and net.

reducing my bill why i wait for it too (and for the messing around from my other calls and mails)

Still looking to get the hd, does anyone know if vodafone still allow you to reduce the tarrif after so many months? Is this any different with a 24 month contract.

I also found a good deal with 8 months half price by redemption, does this mean they calculate the 8 months half price and split it over the months so your paying less line rental each month?

oooo.... please let me know how :D

I'm stuck on which one to get, I'm in need of a new phone. Don't know weather to get the Galaxy s or wait for this. I've had a look at deals and I can get the Galaxy s for £25 a month, get 6 month free line rental, 300 mins (don't use mins), unlimited texts and 500mb of internet. I use the internet and texts. That doesn't seem half bad for the price, but I do like the Desire HD. I can't see many good deals on the hd :(
