I've got a week in New York coming up. I know some of you are well seasoned travellers so I thought I'd ask if any of you have any recommendations.

I'm going to be staying on the east side of Manhattan, right next to the Chrysler building. Basically I'm going to be by myself during the day and with company in the evenings. During the day I'm looking for recommendations for what to go and see and do and for the evenings where to go to eat. We won't be clubbing but cocktails are good! I'd quite like to visit any famous and well known restaurants for some good food. I'm also up for getting breakfast out and coffee during the day.

What's there to do and see?

Does that place that Jerry Seinfeld and George Costanza eat in actually exist? :p

The view from the Rockefeller Centre is impressive, you can spend a few hours up there!:

If you want to see the Statue of Liberty, have a look at the free Staten Island Ferry. The view of the Statue is most impressive!:

You could spend hours in Central Park as well, it's massive :o

Another nice place to walk around is Battery Park, especially if the weather's good. :)

Check out the underground Apple store as well. ;)

Breakfast also at normas at parker meridian. Expensive but worth doing once. Also a great little burger bar there too for later.

Get the tube to Brooklyn (Clark St station maybe?) and walk to Brooklyn Promenade, stunning views and Brooklyn Heights is v nice, then walk back across Brooklyn Bridge...............been twice and for me this was the highlight.

Sparks Steak House on 210 East 46th Street between Second & Third Avenues.

Even if you don't go in for something to eat, the pavement outside was where former Gambino boss Paul Castellano and his underboss Thomas Billoti were gunned down in 1985. If that's your thing anyway. ;)

If you are eating out then you really need to do it with some level of variety, some of the side street deli's are magnificant if you want a sub, pizza or something a little quicker, but definately try out places like TGI's, Applebys, Striphouse, Sparks and also venture into little india, little italy and chinatown but pick wisely as there are some right dodgy restaurants!.

As for sight seeing i'd highly recommend going up the ESB at night, rockafella in the day as the views towards Central park and the upper east side towards Harlem are good, also pay for a quick pass to jump the queues - it always annoys the people who are queueing for the 'elevator' when they see you jump straight in :D

Take the free Staten Island ferry but jump straight back onto it at Statten Island just for the views of Battery Park and the Statue of Liberty.

Take in the sights of Wall Street and Ground Zero, shop on Madison Avenue, stand in awe with a bad neck in Times Square and just have a great time :)

ahh dude, I was over in NY earlier this year (got stuck over there by the damn volcano..), got chatting to a girl in my NY office and she gave me loads of food recommendations on some paper, but I only had time to try a couple out. One was Black Iron Burger in East Viallge:

Probably the best burger Ive ever had in my life, but not much else around it so you'd probably have to walk back to an area of civilization...

There were some really cool recommendations off the beaten track as well, places toursists wouldnt necessarily go, which were great

I'll see if I can dig it out and post them here

There is a fantastic taste of new york thing that I went on where a lady takes you around NY and shows you all different parts that you would not see, have free tasters and good knowledge :)

Go to the USS intrepid, cross the williamsberg bridge to go to peter luger's steakhouse probably some of the finest steak I've had in yank town, central park is worth a visit. Clearly the skyscrapers are awe inspiring. The gugenheim is interesting as is ground zero. Oh and go to the burger joint in the le parker merdien - amazing little place!

Try and catch a comedy club, or madisson square garden to watch the nicks play or go to the yankee stadium - even if you're not into it the atmosphere is great! Though not sure of the baseball season - basketball should be kicking off though.

The best suggestion I can make is to go here http://www.maxbrenner.com/

I went there last year whilst I was over there, liked it so much went back the day after! Food is moderately expensive but its such an experience being in there and they do some of the best desserts ever! Think its on Broadway the one I went too.
