High Octane Unleaded?

The op encountered premium and did not know what it was.

I explained what it was and why it has that name.

Yeah we know. But that name is just a legacy of the old convention, it is no longer relevant

After reading from post #1 to post #162 I have come to two conclusions:

1: I have a migraine.
2: Never ask a petrol question in motors.

:p

If the people who sat her arguing a completely inane point had put all that energy in to something productive, imagine what could have been achieved.

It's relevant until its no longer seen at petrol stations. It's still relevant enough to cause the op to get sufficiently confused to both buy the wrong fuel and post a forum thread about it.

Wait so BS228 DOES tell us that 95 Ron is premium?

Super is in a different standard (7800?) which is why its not mentioned I guess.

Which bit of page 3 did you not get ? 'premium unleaded is now called unleaded'

I only joined this thread to add the hard facts of the spec. Seems even this is not good enough.

Show me one petrol station selling 97 fuel called 'Premium Unleaded'.

Are we ever going to get any further here or should we all mutually agree to give up?

I think we should give up :D

You joined for a fight and You know it :p

The op saw Premium Unleaded and bought the wrong fuel as he did not know what premium was.

I explained what it was.

EDit: ok cease fire? :p

I joined as I thought my background would give my input some credit-seems I'm wrong. Come on you love a good nit pick of a thread as much as anyone !:)

Agree you answered OP, but when did a thread ever stay on topic?

Just filled up at a Shell and the options where "Fuelsave Regular Unleaded" or V-Power Unleaded"

Having re-read the BS EN228: 2008 I noticed the bit listing the changes from BS EN228: 2004 that says: "Premium unleaded petrol” becomes “unleaded petrol”. So I guess its up to the retailer if they call it Premium/regular/awesomesauce now as the Premium grade no longer applies in Europe

Its true.

But the whole thing kinda went off on a tangent.

The OP asked what was the difference between the names Premium and High Octance super stuff as he put the latter in the car.

Fox explained the naming system which was blatantly in use on the pump and then this all started.
