Why do you think people don’t like the Police?

Not sure what the offence is actually called but this happened to my mates dad he reported the officer and the offending officer got a suspension.

well that doesnt wash for a start

Two police officers is enough to convict somebody of speeding so the chances of a police officer saying "nothing" when asked by his superiors what the reasons for stopping the car were are slim to nil.

You've not heard the whole story there.

yes they have to have a valid reason, but they can pick any number of reasons up out of thin air such that this doesnt really matter.

My gf encounters a fair few police officers in her line of work, and most have been pretty good in her opinion.

I've only had one experience, and it was after I was mugged, and I think everyone from the PC's who came round to the victim support whatchamacallits did a great job.

My wife used to work in a homeless hostel which due to todays society got used like a bail hostel. Straight from prison for drink / drugs / abh etc.. and into the hostel where they were told:

Lights off by 11pm, no drugs, no drunken behaviour, no abusing staff, no fighting

Of course being fresh out of prison they couldnt keep to the rules, despite the £5 a week rent they paid, they got themselves thrown out on the street. Few went quietly which is why the police visiting was a daily occurance.

Think my wifes biggest event was the bloke that went on the rampage with a kitchen knife, police came out with the dog van, the police helicopter, riot gear, the lot.

There was about 20 of them there for most of the night. Suffice to say she saw the police quite a lot in her line of work too ;)

Laws devised, imposed and upheld by idiots. Why can't i do as i like aslong as i don't harm anyone?

My personal interactions with the police have never been good yet i've never broken the law.

The police to me is for people who can't get real jobs.. another give money away, free benefit system created by labour

Where is my pension? damn, I hate the public sector!!!!11!

Wouldn't really say that they've been useful for me, been burgled and had my car broken into before and they were useless on both occasions. Got the impression that they didn't really care and weren't going to do anything about it. Just a paper pushing formality for the Insurance guys.

I'd rather instead of paying for a patrol car to sit on a motorway bridge all night they pay him to sit in an unmarked car and catch the scrotes on my road going around breaking car mirrors and robbing people.

Because they won't take a bribe

Honestly, I've dealt with a couple of decent officers, but the rest have been less than professional at times, young ones with a god-awful attitude, just hoping that I would bite and take the bait so they could do more than just a traffic ticket. The first time I was pulled over, a skin headed coppa with a gap between his teeth asks "what are you doing driving a car like this?", not the usual "is this your vehicle, sir?" that I expected.

If they used a little more discretion, instead of giving me a fixed penalty for driving through a deserted pedestrian zone in an unfamiliar town at 4am on new year's day, looking for something to eat for my smashed (pasty) girl and I, being breathalised (not a drop the whole night), then having the young officer remark "now if you were ****ed I could understand why you did that", I would probably have a little more respect for our police service.

You do realise the Police have been around before Labour right?

The law does in fact protect your right to be alive. I'm sure if someone tried to murder you, you'd invoke The Law on them via the Authorities.

What about all the other 10million offences on the books, such as driving 1mph above the limit, and so on ... are they keeping me alive?

The law needs to go back to basics and allow people and common sense to do the rest

I have a lot of respect for a lot of the police, they do an outstanding job. Though a lot of them, have let the power rise to their head a bit much.

I have been in slight bother with the police on odd drunken occasion. Every time (once for nearly fighting, peeing in public and drunken disorderly) I have sobered up a bit and spoken to them as I would any other human being. I only got charged the once, and I still reckon the only reason was because my two mates were being knobs.

I have also been pulled over in the car a few times, and as soon as I have spoken to them its been a "no problem, on your way situation".

So my finds are, be polite and speak to them as you should with a bit of respect.

I've lived on a mildy rough estate for the last few months i am yet to see a police car.

The police used to have a duty to the public when you had a loacl bobby, but now all they care about is getting money out of you.

I suspect the reason why there are so many examples of speeding, is because
1: It's a crime that can be detected, proven, and dealt with extremely quickly, and with a huge amount of automation (a single officer, or civilian employed by the police can deal with hundreds of speeding fines in time that it might take a couple of officers to books someone in for another offence - so even if the number of officers actively going after speeders has gone done, the number caught will have gone up massively).

It is also a crime that by-passes huge parts of the legal system (ie day in court) as a means to save "money"...

And while we are on the subject of motoring let's not forget things like Section 59 which are technically illegal as there is no court case to go with it - so no chance to face your accuser in a court of law.
Let's not forget S172 notices which infringe on your basic right to NOT self-incriminate.

to waste time one day I went into a small magistrates court
turned out there was the biggest case for years going on - It was packed
it was about police brutality and a big scary policeman was being questioned
they are trained in court etiquette - so he addressed all his replies to the judge
but the judge was female and he was being questioned by a man
so it was very comical:

man) were you at location at that time?
copper) yes ma'am
man) was inspector blah there also?
copper) yes ma'am

etc. turned out this big weight-lifting police had been beating the crap out of bunch of hippies - but it all got recorded!

george orwell got one thing wrong ... big brother isn't watching us ... we are watching him - everybody's got a video camera in their pocket now - police are frightened to do anything anymore - they know if you are winding them up you probably have a friend hiding in the bushes with a mobile phone to video them hitting you

The cops I know think they are something special and take the job personally over a professional manner. I cant stand the law we live under, most of it is rubbish.
