SSD in my Mac Pro *updated with performance figures* (and video)

Get the 120Gb, it's like £30 more! :/ something like 0.62Gb/£ for the 90Gb and 0.68 for the 120Gb. 0.66 for the 240Gb and 0.60 for the 180Gb but not from OcUK :(

Im swaying between the 120 and the 240 at the moment...

Hmm...DAMN YOU. This month is already expensive enough!

This thread has convinced me to move my 80GB X25-M SSD from my main pc into my 2010 MBP.

Does anyone know if I need to secure erase the SSD before putting it into my MBP

Well I think I'm gonna plump for my SSD in there and an Optibay for the 320GB that's coming with the MacBook :)

Just hope the late 08's will take the 12.5mm drives, for future upgrading

Are you gonna get your Optibay direct from MCE. Have been looking at them as I'm waiting for my 60GB Vertex 2E to arrive but just seem expensive for a bracket, especially when you add on the shipping and potential import duties. Wish they would sell the dvd drive caddy and software separate and then I'd get a lookylikey Optibay off the bay.

No idea yet, not gettin rid anyhow for obvious reasons

I've been looking this afternoon to see if there is one thats specific for the superdrive but it doesn't seem so. Have found some generic ones but not sure what the deal is with power and if the superdrive will fit. Is the superdrive a standard slim DVD-RW?? Like I said before I wish MCE who sell the Optibay would sell the superdrive caddy they give away with the Optibay.

Startech make one, but it's not clear whether it fits the Superdrive. Presumably the Superdrive is 9.5mm high, so it should be fine, but the tech specs don't list the height.

Just had a chat with a StarTech rep and he said the following:

this enclosure is not operating specific (it does not require drivers), so as long as it is the same slimline form factor and SATA it should be fine

So is the Apple Superdrive the same dimension as a bog standard laptop slimline 9.5mm drive??

My drive reports itself as a Matsushita (which is Panasonic) DVD-R UJ-868 in System Profiler. A quick search for that suggests that it is a 9.5mm drive, as people seem to sell 9.5mm replacements for it. Can't find the actual technical specification for the drive, but that sounds good enough to me!

(Over zealous sweary filter!)

So I might end up being the guinea pig. Just ordered an Optibay off the bay. Just need to wait for it to arrive in the UK and then forwarded on to here in Cyprus. Will have to just use my external for the next couple of weeks after I install my SSD hopefully next week.

Are you gonna be the guinea pig of the thread then and order an Optibay of some sort and caddy for your superdrive??
(I have got an offer waiting on an Optibay lookylikey from Hong Kong on the bay.)

TBH I'm tempted to wait until my AppleCare runs out next year, don't fancy risking it til then (although I know if done correctly they prob wouldn't be able to tell)
