6870 and 6850 launch 18th oct

All I'm interested in is how much performance I can get for the price I'm prepared to pay. Looking good so far :)

Same here, let me know how much card i get for £200 and if it whoops my 5850 i will get it, dont care if its called the big****2000 tbh

To put it extremely simply, I don't think anyone really cares if it's a new core or not, lesser performance, rumoured to be the same price = not good, that's how it is.

It's to be expected that a new gen of cards is going to be faster than the previous gen, especially those placed in the same "naming" brackets. If AMD decide to call what we think is a 6770, a 6870, it'll be a big fail on AMD's part in my opinion, it's not cool at all.

Though, I don't think Nordic's article is accurate, what they're reporting would make no sense for AMD to do in my opinion, no sense at all.

This...Like Kylew though i do not think it will happen. It would be crazy to name a card a 6870 that is slower/on par with a 5870.

Well my main point was its almost certainly bull **** anyway, and while upgrading will obviously get you to look at previous gen, the name is rather irrelevant. The 6770 or 6870, whatever it ends up being called, will NOT cost £300, thats a simple fact, if it is called a 6870, it will be slower AND cost under £200(likely £170-180), remember this will have several differences, its likely to be a core 20-25% smaller than a 5870, that means its likely to yield around 30-35% more cores per die already, compared to launch yields of the 5870, you could be anywhere as high as 50% more cores per die. IE Launch supply, launch prices and Nvidia bottoming out on the 460gtx 1gb pricing will keep these cards in check.

Throw in the fact that TSMC won't screw up 1/3rd of their production for around 3 months and its unlikely to have any supply issues at all at any stage. Though you have to be sensible, theres more demand for new products at launch than 6 months later, new stock will sell out, as long as people use their heads and realise more is coming and the uk customers don't start paying £250 for price gouged ones because they can't wait 2 days, everything will be fine.

If they bring close to £300 5870 performance, at £170, not sure what the name matters, anyone who thinks a 25% smaller core, slower card will cost £300 and the "new" 5870 will end up costing £400 is off their rocker, completely.

Anyone suggesting they'll cost the same as a 5870, is wrong, flat out wrong, its almost certain the naming is wrong, if the naming scheme is changed, I personally don't give a crap but it makes no sense and I can't see why they would.

Whose got things to gain/lose here. Nvidia has stock of current cards at current prices and they want as many sold at higher prices as possible, every possible rumour that hints that the new cards will suck, will end up 3 months late, will cost more for the same performance, will be rebranded, where do you think these rumours come from and who do you think they help, therefore, how much truth do you place in these rumours?

What was the last card AMD rebranded so a new card had a name that made it appear faster than a last gen card, but was actually slower, I can't think of one in the past 10 years, that should give you an idea of the likelyhood of it.

The Barts is not a replacement to the 5770.

It is a replacement to the 5850. I think that the lower cost and specified '6770' will be released much later.

The best thing will be buying something cheaper now to last for a year and then buy a top 28nm GPU.

The HD 6000 series will likely be very hot. Watercooling will be needed for this.

if water cooling will be needed im sure they will all have water blocks on them then, as apose to the air cooling fan

They have lower TDP than current series, how does it transform to higher heat output?
