New Focus ST

Well it's no looker, just wonder if it'll be good to drive to make up for that, the bar was set pretty low with the last one though.

Are you serious? Maybe compared to a car that had to have plastic windows, its backseats and just about anything useful removed to be good, but in the grand scheme of things? The previous ST was a great car.

I know you're quite partial to your barge, given your track record of crap hot hatches I'll take your limp wristed insults with a massive pinch of salt, but I think you'll find even before they did all that the Megane (R26 version mind) was significantly better than the ST :)

They weren't intended to be insults, but that depends how you define better.

The Mégane looked crap, felt like you were sat in something assembled by a three year old from China, shook you half to death with the far too harsh ride. The only real thing it ever had going for it was its handling - but even here, considering ride comfort, the ST had the better compromise.

These are all the same reasons why I bought the VXR over the 197 and why I bought the ST over the R26 - both feel like something that would excel on track, but fail to be compliant enough to drive on the road every day for me. If I wanted something for the track, I can think of far better things to spend my money on.

I'm a Ford fanboy but have to admit the R26R is the better hot hatch.

But you don't buy an R26R with comfort in mind. It's a track toy. The Focus ST isn't.

2012/13 will be time to change my car..so naturally this and the astra will loom large on the hot hatch horizon

but no doubt the golf will have evolved by then and I will have to wait and see what Skoda and Seat come up with as well (I have a facelift VRS as it stands and I love the big boot..but with 'only' 200bhp its lagging behind the others a bit)

I have to say the ST looks a bit wierd, but it could be the colour as some colours always seem to suit some cars..

the move to the 4 pot may mean the engine is less characterful but it will improve emissions and fuel which is 2 areas where the current ST falls down

The new VXR looks very promising. 2.0T, 295bhp, eLSD and the same Hyperstrut front suspension from the Insignia VXR.
