Bridge Jumper in New York

Imagine it from his point of view

Embarrassed beyond all limits
Family probably disown him
He no doubt thinks his life would be over
Career already gone

And all the other things a crazy young mind worries about.
Poor guy.

As much as I think most of the younger generation need to man the **** up when it comes to most things, one thing that I cant stand, which no one has the right to do, is people that are effectively forced to take their own lives because of the actions and behavior of others.

I dont even like gay people, and I do expect most violinists to be gay, however, he was harming no one.

Despite the video, there is no evidence in the article to suggest that he was being bullied though, its an assumption surely?

Well the bullying is clearly going to be pretty bad, I mean just look at him, he's clearly a nerd!

Looking at him you would think he would have developed coping mechanisms a long time ago

How about this: nobody cares :p

Gah, the gays do have strange mentalities sometimes. Not all of course, my uncle is gay and he's fine, but a boy at school came out in a school assembley, like an announcement on his own. Very credible, but then he assumed everyone hated him after that, so he was a complete ass hat to everyone, so eventually, everyone did hate him, in a self-fulfilling prophetic manner :D

Still, this is way OTT, I mean, who hasn't been caught with their pants down online.   :p

Totally sympathise with him. Pretty appalling treatment by his "friends" who basically invited people to watch him with his lovers on a webcam.

Why on earth would you take your own life over this?

Give it 1 year and it would be all but forgotten. Sure, its always going to be there, but its not worth taking your own life!

Gay rights organisations say Mr Clementi's suicide is an example of a nationwide problem - young people killing themselves after being bullied over their sexuality.

I may be wrong, but I'd say that's not really the point here. The article doesn't mention any bullying. To me it sounds like a silly college prank which got out of hand. They'd probably have filmed him if he was hoffing the fittest bird on campus, too. It was his own reaction to his public outing, and perhaps the pressures of the expected reaction of society at large to his homosexuality, that pushed him over the edge. Poor bloke. RIP.

Not sure the roomies, as foolish and wrong as they were, deserve all those years in prison though. It was a bad call, and morally wrong, but for a college prank that caused 'mere' embarrassment even if it spiralled to suicide? Harsh.

Quite a large spate of bridge jumpers this week. Heard of 3 this week.

1)On Worcester Ring Road causing traffic cahos.
2)In Birmingham after 4 hours he was pulled down.
3)Now this one in New York.

What about all the bridge jumpers in EVE, they never get mentioned. Though they don't die afterwards either...

It's not jumping off the bridge that kills you...it's the sudden stop
