What is it with the plethora of 'I want to buy an old prestige car for 30% less than they are really worth and I think it will cost 10p to run' threads lately?

£3000 330Ci's? Just... seriously, where to even start? Everything I said in the £3k 530i thread and more given a decent 330Ci costs more than a decent 530i and is more likely to have been abuse.

£3k is not money which should be used to buy a 330Ci.

I take it thats a no then :D

Coming soon 'Any reason why I shouldnt buy a £10k Ferrari 360 Spider'

If you want a really nice one thats been looked after by somebody who can spell then you want £6k+. You can buy them for less, much less, but if you can find a really great condition, cherished example with cast iron history and only careful owners for much less then I'd be very suprised. If you are not bothere about condition then.. why? Why own a shabby one?

Just because you can buy a cheap version of something doesn't mean you should.

Your best chance of a really nice car for under £3k BMW Coupe wise is, dont flame me, an E36 328i Sport. Seriously - thats what this money really gets if you ignore the dross.

If you must have an E46 then your average 99 328i Saloon will be far, far better than your average 330Ci at this pricepoint.

I wouldn't advise buying one for 3k! My 2003 330ci has been up for sale for 3 months and I can't shift it for 6k! :( you could buy one for 5k but remember these are not cheap to maintain so do allow for some big bills such as the cooling system. Find another grand and give me a shout:p

how much then fox? £5000? or shuold i look for something else

I think the question really needs to be are you prepared to deal with the sort of running costs that this type of car (not just the BMW) may potentially bring.

It's all well and good saying that running costs "aren't a problem" but in truth they are - If you were truly in the financial situation to be able to run an old "prestige" car without batting an eyelid I very much doubt that you'd have remotely considered a £3k 330ci.

£3k would get you an OK E36 328 and you are trying to buy an E46 330. You do the math(s).

PS. Having owned an E36 328 I can say that they are pretty nice cars, I liked mine anyway.

For £5k yes, ST220. For £3k, no.

If you've only got 3k to spend perhaps the sub 10 year old big 6 cylinder stuff should go on the back burner.

I've got a 330Ci and your not gonna get much mpg out of it... although that might be due to my heavy right foot :p

Still it does more mpg than my RX8 ever did!
