Yes but if you fail your test you lose your money, if you make a mistake in your lessons you just get a telling off from your instructor. There's a difference.

Still can't see how that makes second passers better than first time passers tbh. Would love to see a statistic, even though they can be manipulated.

It's a load of balls and you know it. It's like saying people who fail their exams first time are more intelligent...

I know but as I said it's the only explanation I can think of, of why he got that statistic. I agree it's probably not true.

which is why some need 3 attempts

Statistical probability says that the more times you take it, the higher the chance of one of those tests being without mistakes, especially as you get more accustomed to the stress of the test.

I very much doubt there's much difference between people who pass first or second time. 8 times maybe, but twice....doubt it

Good luck 5UB, I have my test tomorrow morning so i've been trying to get mentally prepared for it.

I'm usually fairly cool in test conditions, so hopefully it'll go ok. This is actually my 3rd test (previous two were 14 years ago) and the biggest mistake I made was to not carry on.

If you fail don't worry about it, just get another test booked as soon as possible. There's also the change in the test from tomorrow with the independent driving section, but at least it means only one reversing exercise.

I always question people who have trouble reversing? I always say its easier than moving the car forwards, so much less chance of mistakes and in the test it eats up loads of time doing the two manoeuvres.

Good point deleted, although I don't have any problems reversing these days. What I said may be a result of my two failed tests ages ago, when I did have problems reversing.

So by failing, it probably makes you better at passing the test (if those are the statistics) but that automatically doesn't make you a better driver because a better driver wouldn't make the mistake in the first place.

I fail to see how making a mistake on your first test makes you a better driver than someone who doesn't? You wouldn't say the same about someone who was sitting their A-level exams.

i said it just improved your chances of passing taking it again. which is well duh ! obvious.

Passing your driving test 1st time is no reflection of your mightier skill than those that took attempts. As i said earlier people make mistakes, so the more tests you take the more chance you have of getting it right and not making a mistake.

Maybe once you've got to the point you need 8 attempts, you've reached a point at which "well we all make the odd mistakes" doesnt really cover it and you have to wonder if they fluked it. But for those that pass on 2 / 3 attempts i dont think applies.
