1st Car Insurance well over 2k!!

after seeing this thought i would get a quote as mine is jue soon, i will be paying nearly £200 more now than i would have 10 years ago, insurance has gone stupid.

I've been driving 8 years.
It cost £1200 to insure my fist car which was an A reg 1.2 nova that cost me £50.

Now I drive a 51 plate 1.7 astra & its £400 a year, still pricey but have 4 years no claims.
Did a quote for an Insignia VXR which I plan to get & it was only £100 a year more :)

Wow scary how much insurance is these days, my first car (17 years ago) was a 4 year old 1.3 Escort and cost me £700 TPFT and since then I've never paid more than that for any of my cars/bikes.

Hate to think what it's going to cost me when my daughter is old enough to drive.

At age 25 I insured my 206 GTI, TPFT, on a provisional license whilst I learned to drive for £1600.
Now aged 26, 1 years no claims, passed my test and have just insured my car for £1800, fully comp from Aviva. Every other insurer was coming back with ridiculous quotes of £2400+, not that £1800 isn't ridiculous mind you. TPFT quotes were all £3000+
Insurance scams are rife in my area but adding my old man as a named driver was knocking anything upto £500 off quotes.
I feel quite stupid, being almost 27 and having to add parents to my policy to bring quotes down.

That is crazy

When did you pass your test?

I insured my Civic Type R for about £650. I'm 26, 0 years no claims but 5years driving experience.

Fiesta's tend to be higher insurance, I remember tales of mates 1.25 fiesta costing more to insure than my Saxo VTR did, even at the same age/no claims etc

I'm 21 with 3 years of driving experience and 3 years no claims, one non-fault accident (didn't even claim as it was a hit and run job) and this years renewal quote for a 98 Honda Civic 1.4 is £1388 whereas last year it was only £760. No other insurers will touch me for anything less than £1000. That is frankly ridiculous as my friend living not even 2 miles from me can get insured on a Civic Type R at 21 with 0 no claims and 3 points on his license for £1400.

Perhaps it's just me stuck in a timewarp when my first car, a Pug 205 was 470 quid fully comp in the mid 1990s.

Young and wholly irresponsible drivers were abound then as well.

I am currently getting annoyed with my insurance and I am being asked for £506 for my 2.0ltr Primera GT. I am 22 and 5years no claims. I am looking to get it under £500.

The whole postcode lottery thing is a bit ridiculous. I appreciate crime stats are crime stats but I'm younger than you, I've got less NCB than you yet I've insured my Group 17 3.0 litre car for £400.

Are you really a bigger risk to the insurer? I don't personally think so.

FFFUUU you had to post that didnt you. Who are you with?

Tbh I live in Wigan, its hardly crime capital of the north west and the village I live in its unheard of car crime and crashes.

Only been passed six months so I was kind of expecting these silly figures. I know my car's probably a bit of a chav magnet but I only bought it cos it was in fantastic condition and very low milage for it's age.

There's been quite a few high profile cases of insurance scams in my area recently too, everyone I know has seen their premiums rise this year by anything upto £400!

You are driving yourself mad over 6 quid?

After driving 5 years and having 4 NCB I put my sister on my insurance who had just passed for £90 for the whole year. I seem to remember paying £1500 on my mums insurance for a year. life is not fair :(

yeah, i got quoted £0 to be put on my parents saxo last week, not bad for a 21yr old diabetic male. Got the paperwork to say im on the policy.

Been looking to get my own car however, something like a classic mini, insurance is around 1K comprehensive cover, which is not bad
