Did HMV just rip my mum off? lol

You sent your mum out to buy your computer games? Either you're the saddest 20 year old I've ever encountered and the extra tenner was a valid 'young, dumb & living off mum' tax, or you're admitting to contravening laws regarding sale of age-restricted material to minors.

She went to a store, She asked for the game, They gave her the game,
She paid for the game

pretty clear cut

Wouldnt say ripped off she happily gave them the money.
Overpriced, yes for a 2nd hand game.

another 4 letter store is the same.

usually the prices for games brand new on the website are a lot cheaper than the "pre owned" in the stores

Even back in the 80's HMV was always pricier than anywhere else (£6.99 - £7.99 for a vinyl LP compared to £4.99 everywhere else). On line prices are usually lower but they're not going to match that in store and more than likely mark it up too!

TBH you see this in all shops. They take care on prices on new stuff (to some extent) but I doubt they check the prices on the 2nd hand stuff much.

So they price something up 2nd hand when it comes in relatively new and if it doesnt sell it sits in the second had rack for ages as the price for the new copy drops with age.

Pre-owned isn't the state of the game, its how you will feel knowing the price after you bought it.
