Every now again, Win 7 pops upa message along the lines that my hard drive is about to fail and to backup! This i am doing as i write this.

Should there be a cause for concern?

The drive is not that old: Samsung F3 500g

I would simply ignore the message, if the drive fails you make regular backups anyway.... don't you?

(actually for the £35 id bin the drive and get a new one)

i'd buy a new one and then RMA the old drive.

the last time windows 7 showed me that message, the drive in question had already failed, i was able to back it up though.

Sometimes the drive may react in a way windows 7 associates with being a dieing drive. If I was you id make weekly back ups and monitor it for a bit.

Ive simulary had windows 7 not pick up on dead drives.

The message has started to pop up more often now!! Everything is backed up. Done some HD tests but nothing!!

Anyone think this is an OS glitch?

Have you run Samsungs own utility? ESTool? You burn it to a disk then boot from it.

Win7 didn't detect my dieing Samsung F3 1tb, but the ESTool gave a huge list of errors with which I was able to RMA (although it took nearly 5 weeks for a new one to arrive).

Andy.

Can't find a 64bit version!! Ordinary one does not work with 64bit.

Would it still pick it up if it was run in 32bit Win XP on a Virtual Machine.

Reason being, if you had Win 7 Pro, you can install XP pro 32bit on a VM, possibly showing hard drive issues.
