Just had a look on macrumors and the status for the MBP is:

"Buy only if you need it - Approaching the end of a cycle"

Does anyone know roughly when the new models are due? And will this effect all MBP's as I'm only interested in the base £999 model.

Thanks.

This is of interest to me, also. If they refresh in November that'll be perfect but the tech waiting game is never-ending. If I just wait now, a better one will come out... but if I just wait until new year... etc. :p

Still, November fits my budgeting very well. Any ideas what kind of updates are likely for the MBP 13", if any?

November would be great, i am hoping for a i3/i5 13 mbp!

As per previous discussions though, that would severely impact on the graphics performance (no room for the i-series CPU as well as dedicated gfx on the 13" logic board). Personally I'd take a decent Core2Duo and a 350M over an i3 with integrated gfx. Hopefully if they do release an upgraded version it'll be extra hdd space (500GB 7,200rpm would be nice) or something.

Looking at this on MacRumors:

The MacBook Pro presently tops out at 2.66GHz with the Core i7 processor. It is available in both 15" and 17" models. Apple last updated the MacBook Pro this past April. It's unlikely that Apple will refresh the whole lineup this fall, but could offer the new processor as a build-to-order option. They've done these quiet upgrades in the recent past with the the Mac Pro.

I should make clear that the article is referring to the 15" and 17" models, not the 13" which is too small for a Core i5/7 CPU combined with discrete gfx as I said earlier. So if we take that at face value, it's hardly worth waiting if you're looking to buy. If the Core2Duo is here to stay for now (rumour is that Apple are considering AMD for future machines), there's not much else they can upgrade in the 13" bar the hard drive.

You pays yer money and you takes yer chances, I suppose.

I read this but i thought that maybe a smaller CPU would be made, im not very good with laptop components sorry.

I may just get one now then.

Yeah, the only one likely to be updated is the 13" as they only updated the 15 and 17" in April.

Updated how, though? It's the 13" I'm after, but given the established fact that a newer generation CPU isn't feasible, what else is there to upgrade? It already has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, so about the only thing to upgrade is the hdd; unless they can somehow better the screen (higher res?).

Bought 13" MBP recently, despite these 'rumours'. Like others have said, we shouldn't expect to see i3/i5 in the 13" model as it just doesn't make sense for Apple to sacrifice graphical power for a little (and unnecessary) speed boost.

I don't expect to see any updates till after Christmas, and even then, I'm not sure what they would do exactly. Unless you know for certain that a new model will be out in <month, and you are willing to wait, there is no reason not to buy now.

Maybe they'll make the enclosure a bit larger to accomodate for it? I'm not sure how bigger the components are, but maybe they've gone back and made some adjustments to it?
