My grand parents are moving into an old peoples' home and they will be charged £2k per week to live there!

Is this not an utter disgrace? They are not entitled to state assistance since they have more than £10 to their name.

My Gran who is in a Nursing home is paying £450 per month with a good chunk paid by the Concil and she has money. Strange that you grandparents can't get any help.

That sounds a lot, do they need lots of care?

Decent hotel would be cheaper.

You could look after them instead? Basically, it's the price people are willing to pay to offload their responsibilities onto others. Same as childcare really.

Seems reasonable...

:p

I assume for that cost is must be the biddy equivalent of the Ritz where they have the nurse wipe your backside with gold-diamond encrusted toilet paper and your commode is made out of platinum?

Well seeing as its a private business ie most care homes are then they can charge whatever they like...you dont like it then take your business elsewhere;)...simple isnt it??

Why is it a disgrace? Assume it's a private company. It's not the only nursing home in the world.

I think it's a disgrace you expect me to pay most of the £2K a week needed to look after your family.

I'm not sure you can say it's an utter disgrace just because it's expensive

I thought the cost of a pretty basic old peoples' home was around 700/800 a week and it goes up substantially if there are any extra needs

On a more provocative note - why shouldn't they pay for their care? Why should the state pick up the cost? Wait for another 10 years when the baby boomer bulge starts needing this sort of care - there's no way the state could afford to supply it free to everybody without a radical overhaul of our taxes (on top of what the current goverment's got to do) - look at the fuss about child benefit, and here you are only talking about saving £1Bn

My cousin is in one she had early onset alzheimer's, costs us 950 quid a week, no help from anyone.

So 2 people at 2k a week dosent sound unusual to me.

Tell you what, give me £1800 a week and I'll quit my job and look after them full time.

Sponge bath? Arse wiping? Soggy minge wiping? False teeth cleaning? Dribble cleansing? Urine mopping?

Hmm, I'd have to think twice :p

Did I mention the time an old man (pc support customer) dribbled on my head???!

*Sideshow Bob shudder*

Seeing as a hotel is about 100 a night, 300 a night for round the clock care by trained nurses doesn't seem too bad.
If you can do it cheaper I'm sure you'd make a lot of money by undercutting the competition and giving the same level of care.
