Scientists at the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing are reported to have confirmed that they filmed a UFO during the eclipse for 40 minutes. They say that they will spend the next 12 months studying the footage before drawing any conclusions.

The footage, which was featured on Chinese television, appears to show the object repeatedly changing shape after initially appearing as a glowing blue sphere.

Very cool indeed. Some of the best footage I have seen for a long time. Why cant they just relase the whole lot now?

Fail 1:- Do you really expect them to track a fast moving object with a huge and cumbersome telescope?

Fail 2:- Telescopes are made to observe things extremely far away, you would not be able to focus on something so close.

I find it surprising that this would be on the news there... I would have thought they'd want to keep hush about such things!

Who mentioned telescopes?

Astronomy nuts tend to have some pretty good digital cameras and be pretty good photographers.

until they find something worth finding then all of a sudden the only camera with space left ends up being a 0.3mega pixel camera phone with all shots taken the exact same time a massive earthquake is going on :(

so they work in a top-tech observatory and don't have everyday binoculars/low-powered telescope with a camera attachment?

Riiiiiiight.....

Of course, whever people see UFO's its normally polite for the UFO to wait for the observers to find and setup their everyday binoculars/low-powered telescope with a camera attachment.

I dunno about you but in the 40 minutes you claim they filmed for I'd have thought one of them would have gone "hey you know what we should probably get Chen to get his Nikon or cannon out and get a few decent quality shots off with something other than his camera phone."

Hell in 40 minutes they could have driven to a store and bought a camera if by some bizarre chance they didn't have a single one with them.

40 minutes to set it up while filming it on a camera phone?

anyone want to take a guess as to what tango will make up and come back with now to go against the 40 minutes and can't find a single decent camera thing?

mine is that he'll say how no one wanted to look away as it was a once in a lifetime thing blah blah blah

Flight of the Navigator?

I recall it being an alien ship that he found then the government wanted it so he buggered off.

Gotta find that on Lovefilm. :D

I dunno after 40 ****ing minutes I think i'd be bored of it even if it was 20 triple breasted alien hookers gang banging Pamela Anderson with various sex toys.

Also it's during an eclipse you'd think observatory staff would be setting up for taking professional and personal pictures of the event wouldn't you.
