Hey bakes0310 :)

Maybe some glitch with AMD overDrive?

Go into BIOS and manually set [x17] multi to see if that works?

I had that on my 955 BE until I ran some CPU intensive software, try PRIME95 or even better folding@home. If you install CPUID you'll see it report the CPU speed and then when you run CPU s/w it should jump up to whatever you've clocked it to. BTW you should be able to clock that to 4Ghz easily providing you have good cooling. Mines running at that with no probs.

Only if you install the cool n quiet software and drivers and enable acpi 2 support in the bios.
If talking about Windows XP then your correct . . . but I think Windows 7 and maybe Vista have all the C&Q built in so that would make your statement incorrect! :D

Was going to say, that is a lot of hassle otherwise and most people wouldn't know to install it.

My 965 has a low x4 state, then x11, then x17.
So really, on stock you should get 800mhz, 2.2ghz and 3.4ghz
Try CPU-Z, run Prime95 and see what speeds you get there.

EDIT: Just noticed you have the same motherboard as me. What BIOS version does it have? If I remember correctly, if you have the C3 revision of the 965, you need at least BIOS version 1003 for it to run properly.

Did you find out what the issue was?

Not really all i checked all the cores and they were all reading 2.8, so i went into the bios and got all cores running at 3.5. Everything seems fine i ran 3dmark vantage and its fine with a better score. Now im trying out prime95 how long should i leave it running im thinking 8hrs.

Did you put the latest BIOS on? Sounds like that would fix it (and could fix/improve other things too).

No problem now as its now overclocked to 3.5:)

Ramp it up to 4Ghz. ;)

never had overdrive report the wrong frequency, but the latest version gives me problems with multiplier overclocking (ie, it wont let me at all.) googling around this seems to be quite a rare issue though, and i can still change it in the bios or use the previous version of overdrive.
