Hi there guys/girls.

I have around £2400ish to spend. My only real must is it being the newer model. Will this budget get me a decent one? Tax and mot isn't important but obviously a bonus. Will be used as a get to work car and the odd trip to parents and inlaws. Never more than 50miles per week.

Not sure the budget is high enough, you'll probably need around another £1000 for a decent one. It should be enough to pick up a phase 1 172 though.

There is a huge choice of Phase 2 172's around for that budget. I was so close to buying one earlier this year, but the fragility (and general Frenchness) of the interior and gearbox has given me second thoughts. Made my Fiat feel like a premium quality car in comparison.

I have around 5k but only wanna spend about 2.4 ish on a car as I will need tax/insurance for the year and need a new pc. car + tax + insurance = 3.5k which leaves me 600ish for a system and the rest to take my wife shopping to treat her

Just got a quote for one, 6 years NCB, zero claims, 27 years old.

Admiral: £722.60
Total Excess £550.00

wtf, wouldn't mind something a bit faster than my Yaris but nearly double my insurance to have a 2l car, **** that.

Yes, because a cars insurance cost should be judged based on its engine size.

A 2 litre car can be anything from 90 to 400bhp!

Why are you asking us to 'spec you' when you've already chosen what model of car to buy

Are you always a stuck up arse?

You know exactly what I meant. Get off your high horse. x amount of reply's and low and behind yours is the arsey one.

Go and sign up over at ClioSport.net (recommended by ScarySquirrel ;))

There is a wealth of information over there which will no doubt be of help to you, and there is also a for sale section which is worth keeping an eye on.

That's reasonable considering that's a quote from a fairly mainstream insurer. It's also not a bit faster, is so much faster it isn't funny ;)

As for insurance, sign up and pay for membership at ClioSport.net and go through some of their trader insurance companies, like Sky Insurance, as they offer very good prices and good discounts to club members.

It really isn't.

I paid with 3 years ncb, age 27 and 2 non-fault claims £620 for my RS4 running 420bhp with all mods declared with a london postcode.

I call up half way through the policy to enquire of a 172 and they say to me (this is bell btw) that the clio is a higher insurance group (LOL!) and that they want an extra £56. Work that out and it's £112 a year MORE to insure a french hatchback worth about £2.5k.

Absolutely ridiculous but I am certain that it is the stereotypical owner of these cars.
