Euro Millions next week!!!

Sorry to disappoint you all but me and the Mrs are winning this week with our 3 lucky dip lines.

If we do win the jackpot exclusively, I will give everyone who posts in this thread at least £1k.

No it is going to be me i'm afraid.

You will all however be excited to know that my offer of buying you all a can of coke still stands.

Have you done any finance before?

Something returning just 10% (with certainty i.e. bank is guaranteed not to go bankrupt) say over 5 years with a principal amount of £120m is worth a lot more than £120m. A bank will not sell you this security for £120m.

It is much more valuable in open markets.

You can ask how you can ensure that a bank won't go bankrupt? You can't and hence would have to buy a CDS off someone who is perfectly hedged against said bank. So that would have to be taken into account when buying such a security.

So a security which returns 10% on a principal amount of £120m with certainty for 5 years is worth a lot more than £120m.

You can invest in sovereign bonds (admittedly not as an individual investor but you could through a fund), Brazil 30y sov.bonds give 8.25% coupon! Colombia 30y coupon is 10.38%. Hell, with 120m you could take the tests and open your own fund to invest in these and be a resident of the isle of man or guernsey for a nice tax-free offshore income!

Also what do you mean that the security would be worth more than 120m? compound interest of 10% for 5y gives a return of 73m. Was it a figure of speech or did you mean something different in respect of "worth" (as in worth to a bank to do that compared to other investment opportunities)?

If you want something more secure than investing in colombian bonds you could simply diversify your 120m in big market-cap stocks that give a nice divi every now and then and easily achieve a moderate 5-8% p.a on that investment. Not bad!!!

What time is the draw tongiht out of interest? I'm not familiar with the timing as I only pay the stupid tax when stupid amounts of money are on the table :D

knowing my luck i will win the jackpot but due to a problem with the machines every lucky dip will be the same so i have to share it with a few million people.

Think I might get 2 lines later. Even though it is a complete waste of money, I like to think of it as paying to spend the afternoon daydreaming about my new house(s).

Can you imagine your numbers coming up tonight, falling asleep thinking you've got 120mil, can do anything you want in life, and waking up to find out you've won 500k or 1 mil, a nice amount, not terrible at all but you can buy a decent house in London for that, and thats about it.

I'd probably buy some property straight away, a nice but not insane place for myself/family, not sure where, tempted to go out for a massive mansion for minimal cost near a national park or something, maybe right on the doorstep, away from the world. Or something like, a 10mil place in Richmond type area.

Buy some buildings in London for renting out apartments as a long term investment, even if you ran out of money something like a 15mil apartment block, 14 apartments(several listed on that rightmove website) would likely generate 30 k a month after tax, which would hardly be a terrible sum to live off.

jp_bl_68 said “1. Tell Ladbrokes you've just won £112m on the euromillions and then ask them for the odds on you winning the jackpot next week (presumably they'll come back with an astronomical figure, tens of millions to one).”
The odds are not that high. Well ok high, but if you won the lottery the odds of winning the 2nd week are exactly the same as the first week. Once you won the lottery the odds do not get lower to win a 2nd time.

It’s like when you role a dice and get a 6. If you already have a 6 then the 2nd time you roll the dice you have a 1 in 6 chance to get a 6.

£112millions ? w0ot ?

I'll go mad if just one, only one person win this.

this should be shared equally by at least 5 families.

I am buying 5 tickets after work.
