Vacuum Cleaners

Dyson DC24 animal. Awesome vac.

And someone who said they break too easily? My parents just got rid of the one they'd have for 7 years - hell of a lot longer than the crappy Vax they had before it that lasted about 18 months.

My Dyson has just let go after 10 years of faithful service. I will fix it with a new set of motor brushes at £3 or at worst a new motor for £18, and maybe some new filters now it's in old age :D
I just took it apart to see what's wrong. There is a guide online and the part for the motor is £3.20

I don't think you are going to go wrong with Dyson/Miele, and the Sebo

My mate has Miele everything, it actually works no better then either of the Dysons I've had, and needs bags, but is very quiet..

I bought an original DC01 Dyson after borrowing one, it certainly did a superb job of getting car hair out of the carpet.. I only replaced it when it had an accident whilst moving, and that was a DC15 'ball'.. which too has been brilliant so far, and works well with pet hair..

I'd try a Sebo though, it seems to get good reviews, not sure how much better then removing all visible car hair then the Dyson it could get, and my Dysons have been exemplary in terms of reliability..

Miele cat and dog. Any discussion like this usually ends up with an argument between Dyson and Miele, it depends whether you want one that will last forever or one in pretty colours, with fancy adverts and cheap plastic...

Slight bias there ;)

& from me, Used to sell 'em.
