Stolen Astra VXR - Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire

I drove around there and a few other places in Hertfordshire over the weekend, saw a few blue Astra VXR's but not the one with that plate I'm afraid. Will keep my eyes peeled again when I'm back in a week.

You'd be very unlikely to see it with that plate on - typical semi-professional thieves will swap the plate and park it up for a few days to see if a tracker is on it.

Usually try and spot a car from identifying marks rather than reg plate altho it's kinda difficult with new cars. spotting my would be easy full of little dents that i'd spot a mile away.

Why do people leave keys near the letterbox? It's not like this kind of thievery is rare. Especially with desirable cars.

Nice one Mr Perfect. Shame you're not perfectly compassionate.

Why do you want it back?

Get the payout and buy another one which isn't labelled "STOLEN/RECOVERED" and worth about £3k less than the few seconds before it was nicked.

Never understood trackers, on a similar subject - unless I've got something so rare that it could never be replaced, if they nick it, they can keep it. I'll just buy another.

Works well if you're talking about a stock car but you aren't factoring the people that modify their vehicles. Many can't state the modifications due to the insurance rate hiking through the roof to an unmanageable fee.

The car never got recovered unfortunately and so my friend is now waiting for his insurance payout. He's already had to prove the value of the car once because the insurance company offered him some stupid amount but still does not have the cheque in his hand as yet. It seems to have taken forever when you think the car was stolen on 7th July.

Thanks for all your efforts on this.

*sniggers*

Completely unfounded of course. But humorous none the less.

Thing is though it isnt unfounded is it, you have to be SO careful with the throttle on these, if you are going for it massive amounts of tyre squeel and understeer are hilariously inevitable in ways it just isnt in other cars :D

Wouldn't failing to state the mods render any claim invalid, such that the insurance is essentially unmanageable anyway? A loss claim you could get away with, as if it's not found they'll never know, but surely any accident or damage claim is gonna be hopeless? If they open it up and see an undiclosed supercharger or whatever, what happens to your claim?

how can you leave your keys within touching distance of a letter box?!

i leave my car and house keys literally within 5 feet of where i sleep so that they are inacessible unless u trek through the house upstairs and to my room?

do people really still leave car keys hanging next to their front door?!

There was a guy just past Hainault who had 2 boxters stolen within a few months via the fishhook method so yes they do, twice in his case.

It's only a matter of time till someone hooks up the mains electrics to their key hooks and hopes for a bite :D

This car has got to be surely one of the most desirable cars to theifs?

Shocking, hope he finds it.

Not really any more so than another hot hatch.

If a VXR and a Cossie were next to each other, i know what id bet on still being there in the morning.

Good luck finding it, dam scum.

Iam still paronoid about leaving my keys, though i have no back letterbox, and the back gate is locked as well. I don't agree with the hide keys in your house argument, if people are willing to brake in your house looking for them, what are they going to do to get the keys off you? if you keep em under ya pillow say lol. Just put em in the draw and out of sight downstairs IMO.

theres a difference between fishing in someones letterbox to actually breaking and entering.

and theres an even bigger gap between a simple break and enter into a break and enter plus GBH or worse plus the chance of being identified / leaving dna evidence by rummaging around the entire house trying to find a set of keys i would have thought.

I was broken into while asleep and they took the keys to my VXR and Company car :( left the company car and took the VXR. Luckily it was found 3 days later without a mark.

Depends what you have sat outside and the people trying to steal it.

It's only a car at the end of the day.

Scum that 'fishook' keys I'm guessing are mostly opportunists. People that break and enter, well I imagine they come preapred to make sure they get the keys, even if you wake during the theft.

If you have a family indoors with you, I'd just leave the keys downstairs.

We think the thieves knew what they were looking for on this occasion. The car had a really loud exhaust, much louder than standard and so they rolled it away instead of driving it so we think they had seen the car around somewhere and followed him home.

There has been a real hit on VXR's lately with many of these stolen threads cropping up on the Vauxhall forums. For some reason at the present time they do seem to be desirable.

On the note of keys, mine live on the stairs overnight. They cannot be seen through the letterbox or window but if someone was to break in looking for them, they would find the keys before they find me which is exactly the way I want it. If they want the car that badly then I'm not prepared to fight them for it.

I agree with this, some things are more valuable than a big block of metal!

possibly so they can sell the engines on to replace all the blown ones from Thornley?
