LOTRO now free to play!

It's like any game realease, its delayed.

I only played for the 14 days on and off anyway, be nice to have it there sohuld I wish to play randomly for free...But hey , it can wait for a while.

Yes it'd be nice for developers to inform us every now and then, but you know it hardly ever happens :p

Not really, its already been released in the USA so whats stopping it from being released in Europe. So technically its not actually delayed as it's already been deployed in 1 region.

I doubt it as that would just lead to people going to the US servers instead.

which is why I reckon turbine will pull the plug on codemasters and move all EU players over to their own US servers and cut the middleman out altogether.

I am still struggling to find or see any reasons why this is delayed as nothing has yet convinced me that we are getting a different deployment in terms of coding / patching thatn what has already been released for USA. So the only things left are contractual issues / financial issues between Turbine as the Licensor and Codemasters as the licensee.

I forsee Turbine pulling the plug on codemasters like they did with ddo, and whats taking time now is working out how and where they are going to move all the current EU subscribers

Except with DDO Codemasters were probably looking to ditch DDO as it wasn't doing well. However after seeing what happened to DDO and the increase in revenue and what has happened with the US version of Lotro they want to keep hold of it. Maybe they are just trying to work out some kind of pay-off, but if I was in charge at Codemasters I would be fighting tooth and nail to keep hold of running the EU version of Lotro.

...So it's been delayed...as it was a seperate 'roll-out'.

Anything could be stopping it, who knows, the servers in Europe may not be adequate enough to cope with the load? Who knows :p

I bet the contract for lotro with codemasters hasn't expired, therefore turbine can't just take the thing from them, but yeah, having seen how much cash DDO has generated, I'll bet they're arguing about how much codemasters gets to keep / arguing that it's a different product, therefore your contract is void / codemasters looking for massive compensation if this is the case etc etc.

If there's lawyers involved we're in for a long wait.

but if codemasters are doing such a god awful job getting the f2p online for EU when Turbine have already done so for the US market, surely there must be some speculation that Turbine will take the EU branch back into their own fold so they can better supervise and maintain their product without having a third party licensee bring it into disrepute. Which codemasters are doing a good job of at the moment considering the delays in getting this launched.

I still don't understand why US and EU f2p launches could not have happened at the same time ? surely the coding changes and patches would be the same for both regions ?

Not at all, because we simply dont know what the hold up is and as we dont know what the hold up is we cannot in all honesty realistically assess whether its a god awful job or a god brilliant job. We simply are not privy to the reasons or the issues behind the delay, to arbitrarily declare that its down to incompetence would be a statement born out of our frustration that we arent getting what we want rather than an insight into the facts. Its a very common problem , particularly with gamers who are far too quick to judge and begin yelling that the sky is falling and the apocalypse is nigh than simply waiting to find out what happens. Patience is seemingly a virtue thats been long forgotten by the gaming community.

Tbh F2P isnt offering much to us Capped player's anyway. So any delay IMO is a bonus since we'll have more content to do since the next update is slated Nov/Dec :P

Contray to what people think or read Codemaster'sa re not a bad company

The holdup is the billing system afaik.

Before F2P turbine used a manual system to create accounts and manage various billing aspects but now they have moved over to an automated billing system there are problems.

This was highlighted by a turbine QA staff when asked about the re-launch of bullroarer basically saying that bullroarer will not be offered in Europe due to the billing system not yet working for Codemasters.

I dunno, Tombstone's drunk mate would probably have blabbed about the billing system :)

Thats something I would have expected him to reveal yes, his severely tight-lippedness smacks of worry of punishment if it was found out he had said something which makes me think its something legal/contractual that might have some kind of hush clause on it currently. Though I suppose that could also apply to a billing system, seems excessive to put a hush on that kind of info though.

But if it was that they'd tell us surely? The fact they have said absolutely nothing makes me think that Lawyers are involved.
