Hey guys, just wondering which drivers i should be using for my motherboard and the C300 SSD?

Currently i've installed the drivers off of the Motherboard disc which are the Marvell 91XX Sata 6G Controller.

However when reading about there has been posts about TRIM not actually working with Marvell drivers.

Just like to know in Layman's terms what I should be doing?

Thanks

[EDIT] to note, i installed the Marvell disc drivers after i was experiencing the SSD randomly disappearing. This has not happened since but has only been a short time since installation

Yeh the marvell drivers do nto as of yet support TRIM. I wish they come out with a new one soon that does. I know intel too for ages to do this. I use the standard MS ones that install with windows 7 and they work well and support TRIM.

Im currently running the Marvell Drivers as I spent Sunday evening performing about 50 different OS installs as it kept freezing up.

However yesterday it froze up after a few hours on the marvell drivers.

i think decided to take a look at the Hardware side and switched to the 2nd Sata 3 port, Changed the Sata 3 cable to one provided by Motherboard and Gave it its own power cable to the PSU (was sharing with the other 2 Samsung 1tb drives)

one of these or if not a compilation of these changes has found the drive to be running perfectly, Benched it last night, no crash, running at the reported speeds of the SSD.

Now next question is, do I try going back to the MS drivers, or do I stick with the Marvell?

I was reading on the Crucial forums that Marvell drivers have something called GC that is basically like TRIM?

GC is not TRIM but similar to TRIM If you leave your computer idle it should GC the driver and sort out the performance drop. Only problem is I found the TRIM worked better at sorting out the drives performance drop over time.

I use the marvel driver for about 3 weeks then switch back the MS ones for 1 week then repeat every month.

How simple is it to keep switching?

could you give me a step by step explanation of how i would easily uninstall the Marvell, then install the ms drivers, then back again? :P

Bumping for an answer on how to easily switch between the Marvell drivers and the MS drivers, would like to TRIM the drive for a week. wouldn't like to uninstall drivers wrongly and find I can't boot my drive :)

Im guessing device manager. Also wrt the hardware changes, you may have inadvertantly used a sata2 instead of a sata 3 cable first time round, just a guess.

OK

1: Goto device manager
2: Find you AHCI controller, mine is under storage controller - Marvell 91xx Sata 6G Controller (this is with the marvell driver with the MS driver it will be under IDE Ata/atapi controllers)
3: right click it then select properties.
4: in this windows select the drivers tab
5: then click the update drive button
6: then click Browse my computer
7: then click Let me pick from a list of devices on my computer ( this is assuming you installed windows 7 with the MS driver then the marvell driver later)
8: It should then show a list of compatibile driver, or click have disk to find it if its not on the list.
9: select the driver you want mine shows Marvell version 1027, 1036, 1042 then the Standard ahci 1.0 Serial ata controller i.e. the MS one.

That should be it. you will be asked to restart you computer and once reloaded the computer is using the selected driver

Hope that helps
