I'm guessing he means when the played the infected at versus.. not really a shooter then.. I really like l4d 1 and 2 but playing with randoms is really annoying. I only enjoy it when playing with friends, which is all I do when I play it now days.

So 50% of the game is not FPS? So what is it?

Dunno how you'd describe the infected half of the game tbh.

but FPS's tend to have guns, unless there's a new infected that carries a shotgun then half the game ain't fps.

Following your logic, every game being made today is boring an unoriginal.

No thats not quite right. There are very few original games, that's true. But then some build on the genre (i.e. GTA 1 to GTA 3 are vastly different but based on the same premise). Also with Batman it's been done millions of times (that genre) but there are only a handful of them on the PC. To me it was a very original and great use of a film licence. The puzzles in game kept me playing for ages.

I'm not saying un-original games are poor I'm just saying that it's been done better. In my opinion I don't see what you get from games like L4D or TF2. It's not like there's much to aim for - you do the same thing over and over again and as there's only a few maps it becomes very repetitive. Great for a quick blast but after a couple of days of playing them I doubt I'd play them again.

Back on the Amiga and 8-bit platforms people made thousands of original games - it just seems that the industry has lost its creativity. I loved games such as Dungeon Keeper when it was released so the industry can throw new ideas and genres into the mix but they just constantly play it safe.

exactly trhe same as Cs/cs:s, bf2, bc2, Cod4, fifa, and every other VS mp game.

I play CS:S for a more intense focus on trying to improve my skill where as I play L4D and L4D2 for fun and atmosphere, especially late at night. :D

Me with a typo! I can't believe it. :D

Well that's just a result of development costs. Amiga games cost a few hundred to make, modern games cost a few million.

If you want more innovation and new ideas, play indie games.

In response to the "non-original" comments about L4D:

In my opinion it is quite original, I can't think of any other game that has got me genuinely screaming like a little girl :p

If you havn't played it properly, its well worth getting some mates together or OcUK peeps and having a run through of a campaign, always guaranteed to bed a laugh when someone accidentally throws and pipe bomb at a Witches face and you've all got to leg it back to the start of the map lol :p

Also, I feel its a lot more relaxed than CSS and similar games (When its not on Expert ;)) so is great for a muck around late at night :)

Yes but 10 shots with a shotgun and she is history :)

I'm just going to put a 1 liner of each of the big games I have played this year as I am too tired to think of orders!

CivV - 90 hours played allready since patch, really enjoying it, looks pretty, but not as well designed at Civ4, also some bugs Firaxis need to iron out with later game. The integrated modding shows massive potential.

COD MW2 - Played this mainly earlier in the year, i used to be a serius CS player but now I am happy with this arcadey FPS offering, note lots of cheating and the next iteration is out in 2 months, this is a love or hate game

WoW - Managed to stop 6 months ago when i killed Lich King Heroic, DO NOT Play this game, it sucks life away like nothing else! ... note to self... must not buy cataclysm

Mass Effect 2 - I got about half way through this but something came up and I have not finished it, 1 was amazing I get the impression this one is even better

Star Craft 2 - Incredibly polished I played it through and messed about on the harder modes but it did not really grasp me, I refused to start playing multiplayer as I think it could suck me in.

Fallout 3 - Never played it when i 1st got it, great game this but a few years old, New Vegas is out in just over a week though.

I know it's 2010, but I still decided to buy a game called Baldurs Gate II collection, and it is an immense game. So polished with great sub quests, great group dynamics, great characters, great story, great spells, great world, great puzzles, great acting and narrating and many other things. In fact there isn't anything bad about it, tons of hours playtime and dirt cheap. I'm completely immersed in it, the atmosphere...

Graphics are dated, but like WoW, there so well crafted it won't matter.

Needless to say, it runs great on today's hardware.

I love RPG games with a good tale to tell, and I can say this blows both Dragon Age and the Mass effect series and Fallout 3 clearly out of the water, and I loved them.

If you have the time and like RPG games, play this and thank me next time(unless you played it in in the late 90s that is)!

EPIC in the true sense of the word.

it's not 1.6

Basically anything other than that he trolls.

Lol, there is probably some truth in that.. But not entirely. I suppose I am an FPS puritan, in that I like my FPS games highly skilled a competitive. That is why CS 1.6 and Quake are my two favorites of all time.

Perhaps for me L4D is on to an instant loser at is not competitive. However, even when I have tried enjoying both the original and the sequel just as casual have-a-bit-of-fun sort of games, it still does nothing for me. I have played it with both friends and randoms, but it is just boring. It is not hard enough for co-op to be a challenge, everything in it has been done before, versus was better than co-op, but still nothing special. How people can call it ground breaking is truly beyond me - Zombie shooter done before, coop done before, combined the two done before, FPS done before, etc. etc.

That, and the sounds really wind me up for some reason. The guns sound like BB guns going through the throws of puberty.
