It sounds bonkers but that's how it went down (for them). Everyone is happy, god didnt have to prove anything because his faithful did it in his glory. Its a win win situation for the Church and the believers, the fact that the drill went off in an unplanned direction and happened to actually hit the shaft they were in when they were aiming at a different location is seen as a miracle and gods intervention.

there's been some fantastically idiotic comments, personal favs for me so far are.

a. "you can tell if the shuttle is going up or down by which way the wheel is turning"
b. "So frank, if you were in charge of this operation would you be more worried about the rope snapping of the shuttle breaking"
c. "Frank, is a pulley and lift system the usual method of extracting trapped miners out of the ground".

I'm sure threes been more, but I'm desensitised to is now

Well done guys you spent a lot of effort designing and building all this gear but no it's not you who deserves praise it's god!

Yes he did all the work and just "worked through you" but don't worry if in your line of work you ever **** up and get someone killed or injured that's god, no wait sorry that's all you god only does nice things, i mean it's not like he'd ever destroy a city or two or murder any children.
 
just to reply to that, the rescuers aren't doing this for praise, if they were the type of people who only did thing for praise, they wouldn't be doing it. You not understanding the mind set of someone who has faith. They will be happy for god to take the praise for it because they are doing it in gods name.

I don't need it breaking to me mate, I am purely Fortean, I am however accepting of others beliefs and faiths and if that it what helps them in their darkest hour and drives them on to do something amazing like what you are watching then who are we to criticise ?

On a side note, irrespective of anything you might believe of my beliefs, can you categorically prove that there is no god ? actual tangible evidence ? You can't, at best you can have faith that there is no god, which makes your criticism of someone else faith somewhat hypocritical.

My very man says this of it

Pedro Rodriguez, one of the Chilean miners trapped underground was said to be distraught last night after being told he'd forgotten to clock on at the start of his shift.
 
Right, sky now seem to be treating this like a Gladiators episode, I expect swishing graphics and body stats soon.

God is believing in a God. It is not something which exists or doesn't exist

some of those men would have given up long ago and possibly died if it wasn't for there belief. saying they are pathetic makes you look silly as their belief helped them battle through tougher times than you may ever have to face.

im not at all religious but its not hard to see how there belief in 'something' has helped them so much
 
I notice how there has been no word of thanks for the people that have worked for 2 months to get them out! If there is a God maybe He should be slapping them in the face telling them to thank them not 'Him'.
