Bes times to go to NY over next few months?

I personally wouldn't fly over there for just a weekend.

Its barely 8 hours to JFK, 5 hour time difference means you can be there barely after you left in terms of scheduling. Not too far to go at all even if its only for a weekend, you just need to make sure you dont need to work on the monday to allow for the trip back.

It's not really worth the cost going there for just the weekend though. 4 days absolute minimum! :) Far too much to see and do.

How can you make comment on whether a certain cost is worth it, given the relative value which costs have to different people?

If you have your time planned then a weekend is good. Of course you won't see everything but it's a good place for just a few days.

Op - January sales :)

Op - January sales :)

Thanksgiving sales on Black Friday are the big sales in the US, it's the equivilent of the UK's New Year sales.

For the next few months I'd either head over for Thanksgiving as most of the Christmas stuff will be up by then. Not sure about the Rockerfeller tree and ice-rink, I think they're the week after Thanksgiving.

Just booked hotel today for 28th Dec to 3rd Jan.

Expensive time to go but imo gotta be best of both worlds as the christmas vibe is still around and new years should be awesome!

Lucky you! How much did you pay and what hotel are you staying at?

We went for 9 nights last May! Loved it! Stayed at the novotel near TS, cost me and the missus 2K.

Most people don't have money to blow. If I am assuming correctly by your sig, you're a Merc owner, which also tells me that you're not the average consumer, so I'm guessing you have money to blow on a short weekend to one of the most amazing cities in the world and thus made that statement. ;)

Without knowing someone full financial circumstances, you can't say that tbh.

Look, I was just suggesting to the OP that 2 days isn't going to cut NY if he's going for the first time. Just like with any holiday, 2 days doesn't cut it, especially in NY. Flights to the Americas cost pretty much double/triple what they are to Europe. Let's not let this get into a financial circumstances debate - no need for it.

Long weekend of 3-4 days can be done. I went in March, which was brill and would recommend going at that time, half T-shirt half jacket weather :-) Of course the best time would be Christmas or the Summer.

You were lucky with the waether then ... when I went to NY (a few years ago now) I went in March and it was 0C before wind chill ... was freezing ... was still a good holiday though.

My sisters going over there for a week or so around Thanksgiving this year so that sohuld be nice for her.

Yeah, I thought so too, went for a deluxe city view room aswell :)

My advice is start off on tripadvisor for ideas of hotels and reviews etc then search hotels.com and lastminute.com for booking.

Spending a large amount of money on somewhere you place your head is madness to me. Much prefer to have that money used on enjoying my holiday and affording extra things. You're only in a hotel for what, 7 hours a day when on holiday? As long as the hotel is clean, in a good location and safe then it boggles why you'd pay extra for extravagance (and this is coming from someone who lived in a 5 star for 5 months...).

Though I didn't enjoy New York a lot when I went, in August a couple of years ago. Maybe we should have stayed in a nicer hotel... :p

Because they can, also because it might be rather hard to find somewhere more basic at a significant amount less, given the date of travel.
