In terms of consistency and reliability, a single GPU card will always be more reliable than multi GPU set-up.

While SLI/Crossfire do very well at crunching numbers on frame rate, how well they actually performance depend heavily how well they scale in particular games (some games sucks with SLI/Crossfire...Team Fortress 2 for example) and driver support.

Also from what I seen, multi-GPU at the frame rate 25-30fps is not as smooth as single GPU at that same frame rate. While single GPU is probably consider smooth enough with 30+ minimum fps, multi-GPU would generally need something like 35-40fps+ minimum frame rate.

Personally I dont think there was anythign wrong with either of your first 2 specs, and think a few ppl are trying to drag this out just for the sake of a laugh

This is not much over your original £800 limit and includes a 480 in a i5 system with decent mobo (could go for gigabyte UD3 if you prefer) the Sapphire PSU (which is a rebranded Enermax) and reasonable case/aftermarket cooler, the HDD is maybe not upto scratch with rest of components but is still perfectly good
At end of day its down to you

I like this build too. After seeing all the people having problems with Crossfire and SLI, I have somewhat lost confident on the tech, and believe that the good old upgrading from single graphic card to the next is the best way to go, rather than smacking two lesser cards/GPUs together.

Rather than spending the extra on i7 for the sake of Crossfire/SLI that may or may not use in the future and settle for a lesser card such as GTX 460 1GB now, going i5 and grab a GTX480 make more sense to me (or whatever AMD 6000 series that's GTX480's rival).
