Porsche 911: All the same, crap to drive, just crap!

Nasty, what did you buy in at?

Got out of RKH ages ago, never got onboard with DES, btw I know a man who can sort you a Mini one for a good price :p

I know a man who told me to buy Hewlett Packard what do you think?

As your advisor.... I think you should jump all over it!

Blonde bird goes south.

Wall Street, proper film.

Carrera? Pah.

:)

Though the 997 looks a whole lot better than the 6.

But I don't think the Turbo is going to lose much value over the next year or two.

That blue and blue isnt very popular for some reason, you hear all the Porsche buffs whining about metropole interior, dunno why i think it looks great.

Better than the dreaded savanah poo brown :)

i think there is more to the 993 to 996 change than engine cooling.

the modern interiors dont grab my attention like the older ones. for example, the boxster and 996 speedo/tacho font. why did they have to change from the original porsche font? with the 996 form was an obvious consideration with the interior look where it wasnt in the past. it was too much of a change.

not saying its bad, but too much of a leap

Theres no denying the 993s were made of granite, that interior was bomb proof, it was just the switches were all over the show and the steering wheel was too close to the dash and too upright, if you got long arms like a merry go round :)

Also the peddle off set was a bit much i found, i never noticed the font change to be honest.

See now this to me further reinforces the point that a lot of what is said in threads like this is simply adopting the opinions of other people and presenting them as their own despite having never driven the car.

People do it on forums all the time? Do you think that everyone who comments in threads about cars have personal experience with the cars that they are talking about? Very few people do. Instead they can only go by what they've read and what they 'feel' about a car. As far as I'm concerned, it's not an awful lot different from me saying that I wouldn't find a Diesel Fabia exciting - I don't necessarily have to have personal experience to be able to make a snap decision of whether I'm going to find something exciting or not.

I've not once said that a vanilla 996 is a bad car. As I've said time and again I'm sure that they are fantastic but personally I do not want to own one.

Out of interest what do you like about your Soarer that a 996 911 would not offer you?

Hmm... That's actually something very difficult to put into words without saying something that'll obviously get me flamed ;).

It's just that some cars click for me and others don't. I just don't think something like a vanilla 996 would be my sort of car. Something along the lines of GT3 appeals to the same part of me that would enjoy the Noble I mentioned in the other thread and a Turbo would appeal to the part of me who loves the idea of truly mentalist performance figures in a car that can be used everyday. Something like a C2S appeals to neither.

Contrary to what other people have suggested, it's not because Porsche have been "Making the same car for the last 50 odd years" (I think that is a ridiculous statement by the way) or because they are popular or anything that can really be accurately summed up in a single sentence. It's just that for whatever reason they don't make me think "I really want that" in the way that even certain 20 year old cars can do.

Why not try anyway?

You say that as if a 'vanilla' 996 is simply an ordinary car in ways your Soarer is not. Do not confuse ubiquity with ordinary.
