What Video game genre's do not interest you?

Beat 'em ups and Guitar Hero/Rock Band type games hold no interest for me what so ever

Sports games.

Action / Fighting games like DMC, Ninja Gaiden, GoW, Bayonetta. I've tried all the demos but just get bored after 5 minutes.

I thought I hated sim driving games as I didn't get on with Forza at all but I'm loving F1... go figure.

JRPGs. It's like the developers haven't left their cave for the past 15 years. Improvements in games mechanics, story-telling and user interface design have passed them by. And that's before we get onto some the creepy themes/characters in the games.

Having said that, I'm really enjoying Valkyria Chronicles at the moment.

EDIT: I know it's not really a genre but pretty much anything on the Nintendo Wii too.

FPS - I really struggle to enjoy FPS these days. Maybe it's because I played them solidly for 5 years or so in my late teens and early 20s, and now nothing interests me any more. I played Gears of War on the 360 and thought it was awful, and I'm playing Halo 3 on and off at the moment and that's not much better.

Sports - Never been into these.

RPG - Hardcore RPG games bore me. I actually quite like FPS/RPG though, as a bit of both works better for me than just one.

I've been playing Forza 3 loads since I got my 360, and I want to give Dirt and Grid a go soon. Burnout is good, too. Quite enjoy stealthy action as well. Loved Arkham Asylum, wherever you'd put that.

Football games. I just can't stand them. I can't stand Japanese RPGs either, because they are so juvenile in design. There's only ever been one strict exception, and that's because any other game I've tried just doesn't even hold a candle to it.

Not going to tell anyone what game it is?

(Just seen this thread whilst searching for another so thought id have a pop xD)

Ill have a dabble in most genres really, if a game is really exceptional and has at least some passing interest for me then I will enjoy it, that being said there are a few different types of game that 99% of the time I will avoid like the plague.

No combat flight sims - Enjoy the figher planes, enjoy when you fly a chopper in games like BF2142, but when its just you a plane and a lot of space then im really not interested. Flight Sims really are a marmite game.

Myst style game - the still image puzzle solving, its like the old school point and clicks without the humour and soul. Find the whole thing empty feeling.

Can only play sports game with someone else, just no competative feeling from anything single player. Feels like little progression or accomplishment for most types of games (few exceptions ofcourse).

Gimmick games (Guitar hero, Dance Dance Revolution, Singstar) - Basically any game that pretends to immitate a real life skill etc but requires none of the original skill to do so and instead simply seems to exist to create multiple youtube vids and gifs of either cringeworthy people flexing guitar hero epeen or fat people falling off dance machines. Happy to watch them fail, have no interest in getting involved.

Because they are like cs source stop playing for a week and you are a noob again.

Have to play them all the time to get semi decent and stay frosty.

How strange because I stopped playing SSFIV for over 2 months, went back on and felt like nothing had changed. Doing the same 'difficult' combos just like before.

It's rubbish, taking time away from a game doesn't mean you'll suck at it or be set back.

I don't really class Tekken or Street Fighter as a beat 'em up either, just fighting games. When people say beat 'em up I think of hack and slash games more than anything else.

I do understand the hate for the games though because unlike Modern Warfare 2 / 97% of FPS games you can't just pick them up and start face rolling your way up the scoreboard, many people are into the 'I'm bad, therefore game is bad' mentality. ;) (although Tekken is pretty bad now)

I can see his point because you do need to put in time to be good at these games but personally I don't think you need to be great to have fun playing them. That's the difference, it sounds like unless C64 is winning most of the time he's not having fun (and that's not meant to be a dig so please don't take offence).

The trouble with fighting games is that, when you suck, you really get made to feel it. If you're rubbish in an FPS, you still probably get a bit of time to wander around the map, and you might get lucky and catch someone looking the other way. If you're not good enough at Street Fighter, the other player batters you into submission in a matter of seconds, and you wonder what the point of playing was.

I mean, I have a real love for small set of fighting games, but I loathe playing most people on them, because I know I'm no good, and losing will just frustrate me.

Don't like

Sports games
Dancing/Guitar games
Sim City etc
Point and click

Like

FPS
MMO
RPG
Racing (the more simmy the better. Not fussed on Grid etc)
Action adventure exploring type stuff

RPG's. I see no point wondering around a world "grinding" up levels to complete a story.
