vectra vxr

Well it isnt confusing really

An Evo is a 4WD jap gizmo of a car with electronic diffs and yaw control and all those other things that Make it handle and put its power down at the same time

A Vectra is a hatch/ saloon-mondeo rival that is FWD and lacks anything which allows it to either handle or put its power down at any given time

Similarities end with a turbo really

It's also sad that you look like a dill when you arrive at work too:(

It's very sad. I never have people asking for passenger rides or the CEO/Chairman asking me when I'm going to do trackdays with them. Everyone just hates me and wants me dead.

I've got a 265BHP FWD hatch, and a 200BHP RWD Saloon.

One is a pain in the arse to drive quickly, one isn't.

Care to guess which is which?
Would you rather that your FWD hatch had less power then? I'm not arguing that FWD is better than RWD or something. But given car A with 150BHP or Car A with 300BHP I think I would always go for 300BHP. What I was taking issue with was the implication that the Vectra would be better with less power.

The Vectra would be better with a different drivetrain.

Infact the Vectra would be better if they simply removed it from history and sold the full range of the Holden Commodore instead rather than just the R8.

Mind you 240bhp would probably have been too much judging by the Astra VXR, the single most annoying performance car I have ever driven.

Really? Why was it annoying? I thought it was a laugh to drive! Even with TC off it wasn't too bad when I planted it (that was a ST2 one). What tyres did it have on? I didn't think the Contisports suited it, this one had Toyo's on.

'Oh no, I used 1mm too much pedal travel, I am now going in a straight line!'

This was annoying. I'm sure you can teach yourself to drive it properly and avoid this but you dont need to bother with that in other cars so it annoyed me.

It did have Conti's on, mind.

MrLOL thanks for the useful information!
Insurance on a evo is very expensive the vectra aint that bad not much more than the mondeo really...

I watched the video of clarkson but end of the day im not going to be driving the car like a total *****, I want something big half decent and a bit different than the mondeo.
I should have got rid of mine when it started to go wrong.. everything that goes wrong with them has and I have spent a fortune on the car!

Went to the dealership before and took it on a test drive, I noticed the sport button on the dashboard, what exactly does this do when pressed? more power??

Let me get this straight.

Going by this post, you're moaning about VXRs (and it seems all high powered FWD cars for that matter) because you aren't skilled/talented enough to drive it properly?

Awesome.

I drove the Astra VXR extremely hard at the VX trackday overtaking pretty much everything out there and didn't have any of the problems Fox describes. I'm hardly the most skilled driver either.

I would imagine the Vectra's issues are wildly exaggerated too.

Yes, absolutely. Thats totally my point.

As far as I can see, your "point" seems to be that because you can't hop in it and instantly drive like Jason Plato it must be rubbish.

He has a point to be fair. There is a limit to what a front wheel drive can handle and IMO 225bhp is pushing it...anything past that is a waste

I had a 260-270bhp Focus ST and in anything but bone dry conditions it was a nightmare. As soon as you even remotely tried to exploit its potential it would wheelspin upto and beyond 80mph. The Focus is also well regarded for its chasis so i dread to think what a car with a poor reputation would be like.

Ive now got a 3.2 TT and yes it may not be the worlds best handling car but my god has it made realise how truely useless a powerful front wheel drive car is. I know the TT is FWD biased but if i chose i can plant it in almost any condition and get little to no wheelspin. I can accelerate out of corners harder and earlier. Its just an all round better drive train as is RWD.
