found an email at work being nasty about me.

Bang on.
Just because they wrote it, it doesn't mean they meant it.
It's a bit like the Dons on here, they have a room where they can let off - it doesn't mean they really think I'm a ***** ***** ********* *******

I would expect a work environment to be professional, especially if they are managers. They also say he's lazy, which is work-related. They should be discussing issues with him rather than insulting him behind his back which is nothing short of childish and unproductive.

this tbh. As soon as you realised it was logged in you should have locked the screen not go reading emails. And who cares if they don't like you, I don't like lots of people, and why do they need a reason to not like you. Well they have one now anyway.

Always the same in offices, gossip, dislikes, bitching.

It was a private email and none of your business

I'm in agreement ...not everybody gets on, they dont like you, tough.

they have not harassed you or bullied you and you would have been none the wiser until you read somebody elses email. if you moan on about it now they will be proved right..if you go through life trying to make people like you it will drive you mad, if you have enough self confidence you shouldnt care what other people think....deal with it

and one other thing..if you persue this, you will get a reputation as not only a moaner but a snooper as well so nobody will trust you as you read other peoples emails..I know I wouldnt

reading other people's email :eek::mad:

i agree with your colleagues.

get over yourself not everyone is forced to like you.

reading what you have done I am not sure I like you :p

So yours doesn't say that misuse of the company network isn't allowed?

Because comversations like the one the Op noticed are private and not company business so therefore it is a misuse of company equipment.

it does, but it certainly does not state that name calling is prohibited.

If you only see the guy once in a blue moon i dont really see the fuss, i'd just ignore it.

Come and work with me for a week, the boss' tell you what they think of you to your face. Soon get over it and the next day its all forgotten.

Get yourself 6 weeks off with full pay due to 'anxiety and depression' after reading said e-mail :p

Speak to your HR/line manager if it's really bothering you. Only read the first few posts but it doesn't make sense especially if you were actually trying to save them hastle and bother further down the line.

Colin Baker, if you are going to moan about your boss please think of a more imaginative name that wont let them know who you are.
Does your boss do your appraisal, if so wait for a few appraisals and if you believe you have been short changed take him to court for discrimination as he has provided proof that he has been derogatory about you in emails to other members of the management team.
But most importantly, if somebody somewhere doesnt think you are charmless idiot or a **** your some weird kind of person. Judge not a man by his friends but by his enemies.
Find yourself another job, if it bothers you that much.

Curiosity killed the cat...

Ive had people **** me off in the workplace and never dreamed of taking it further, likewise ive slagged others off.

I'm sure you have done the same, you shouldnt have read the email.

It's just the electronic version of a chat around the water cooler.

It's not really though, is it. A "chat" isn't using company equipment to make permanent records abusing your employees.

Additionally, if they were having this chat within earshot of others, and somebody overheard, then you'd be in a position to raise the complaint.

This!

Isn't leaving an email open for all too see similar to overhearing a converstaion. In both cases the people having the conversation have enabled other to know what's being said.

Just get on with life mate, it isn't worth the hassle dwelling on that. Sad little management playing their secret little games!

Monkeys in a tree!

(Management look down and see a bunch of monkeys - staff look up and see a bunch of a$$h0les).

Same old stuff!!!!

why not just speak to the guy?

All these suggestions about sneaky emails or revenge ploys. If it was me I would be more bothered about why they think that of me rather than misuse of company email etc.

If it bothers you just man up, ask to speak to the guy, tell the truth about mistakingly seeing the email, tell him you think it was unfair and ask him why he has formed that opinion of you.

It may not be your manager but rest assured managers talk. If they have that opinion of you (incorrectly or not) then it is not a far stratch of the imaginiation to believe others do as well, possibly at the influence of these two managers.

So either stand up and face it, try to remedy the situation or just forget bout it and move on.
