Hi all never even thought about doing my 3gs, but just wondering what advantages would i get from doing it?
Also im clueless about how to do it and which app to use.
Has anyone got any decent links or websites for a dummy guide that i will under stand?

Thanks

I have yes and there are lots of different things saying do it this way and do it that way. Thats why i asked on here if anyone had a link to a dummies way lol.

Key question: is there something specific you want to do with your iPhone that you can't currently do?

Is the answer is yes, then jailbreak it. If the answer is no, don't bother.

Look on the Macrumors.com iPhone forum for details if you do want to do it.

omg.. Just wrote a load here on my iPad at college and then accidentally somehow deleted it. It's like it selected everything and as I'm typing I clicked something and bye bye... Can't even think if there's a undo button -.-

I'll reply when I get home later :)

After seeing some of the screen shots the way they are set out they look a lot better, also seen the way texts and things can be changed. Other than that there is no reason, i guess i just want it to look nicer.

Fair enough - I'd certainly like some of the 'widget' style things on the lock screen, however be aware that you'll need to revert it whenever you want to upgrade the version of iOS via itunes, then wait for a new Jailbreak to redo it.

It's a lot of faff for just some visual tweaks tbh, but obviously your choice.

Currently jailbreaks should work through all updates, well that's how I'm understanding these new jailbreaks because of they are 'hardware related' exploits

Yeah thats why i was asking really, im very unsure whether to do it or not. I mean for it to look nicer.
Are there any pro's to jailbreaking it? Better apps Etc?

The main advantage is being able to steal stuff plain and simple.:o

I've never jailbroken mine as I think stealing a 99p game is cretinous.

Eh? Mine is jailbroken and i dont steal stuff.. There is a lot of stuff that you can get and wo with the phone that isnt just "Stuff you steal" For instance ther are loads and loads of user created themes, there are emulators and homebrew stuff thats not on the Apple Store...

Emulators are fun to use definitely for the iPhone 3GS/4, iPod Touch 3/4G and iPad. Anything worst the emulators lag like crazy. Kind of fun having pokemon on your iPhone ;P

I didn't say everyone that jailbroke their phone/touch stole I just said it's one of the main reasons most people do it. ;)

Nothing to do with payin 99p for a game, i dont really use my Iphone for gaming. I have just seen some very nice screens and different lay outs that apple dont offer.

Stereotype :P

Why I jailbreak - iPad:

Main reason:
Multitasking - iPad currently can't do multitasking but even when it can and I update I will hopefully be able to disable it and use backgrounder because its so much better then apples way of multitasking which keeps everything open 'sorta'

I am able to lock applications/apple things on the springboard (desktop) with a password.
I am able to change brightness settings easily and turn wi-fi on and off very quickly as well. Having yourtube to easily download youtube videos. Being able to download other things such as videos (mp4)
Folders as well for the iPad as currently we don't have them

etc etc

sbssettings allows my to turn bluetooth on/off toggle with 2 clicks rather than drilling into settings, general, bluetooth etc etc every time I get in and out of the car.... MyWi is handy for me too....

Not that fussed about themes and such really.....

Does Jailbraking affect battery life much at all? SBSettings sounds good.... I can't imagine all those extra widgets in the standby screen help much tho...

Well i have gone and done it lol, Only wanting it so i can change the look of the phone. Its so boring leaving it to apples settings.

Well worth it to get free tethering, less worth it for the unstable mess it eventually turned my phone into. Unfortunately whilst I love to tinker, once I'm done tinkering (or jailbreaking) I'm not the sort to keep up with every little update to keep plastering over the cracks, so my phone has slowly slipped into uselessness. Then again, it's a 3G, so it was never speedy fast. Jailbreaking whilst bringing some much needed features however, hasn't helped in the slightest.
