It has just staggered me the outrage across the internet at this.

There is no questioning it was a pathetic thing to do and that the woman is a complete prat. But on the same day, I guarantee more people were brutally injured by other people.

Yet nobody cares? It's all about some chavs cat?

Absolutely 100% spot on. For someone who gets such abuse on these forums you do talk a hell of a lot of sense.

£250 fine is appropriate.

For those who wanted more...what (realistic) punishment would you have suggested?

I think the fine is fair, but i'd have put a ban on her owning animals for a few years as well.

I heard on the local news she got a 6 year ban on having animals, that together with 250 quid fine and 1000 quid court costs is a good punishment.

Why do any of us do "nasty" things --- because we're not entirely inherently good.

Most of us have our reasons for doing "nasty" things - usually to get something that we want. What could she possibly have wanted that she got by putting a cat in a bin? She has consistently described it as a momentary error of judgement, and that's a bit on the worrying side...

Och, I'd say nastiness is being nasty for the sake of being nasty.

People who are nasty in the way you appear to be suggesting are usually doing so to make themselves feel bigger or better. I'm not sure how a person can feel bigger or better in themselves by getting one over on a cat.
