got from GOG never played it and wanted a game for netbook and this gets good reviews so i took a chance

BUT

How bloody hard is it ! I am a ranger and in 1st area i have died getting to 2nd area so many times now

No idea how you are playing this on a netbook!

I haven't actually played the first one(it is sitting next to me ready to be played), I would imagine though that you will be able to turn the difficulty down at any point during the adventure(you can on 2)?

I found this game started off pretty hard but as you progress it gets a bit easier. Died a lot when I first started bloody wolves in that forest at the start hehe

Get to the inn with Khalid and Jaheria ASAP - stick to the main roads. Once you've got them to soak up the damage, it gets easier.

Ranger is a Start Slow and Picks Up class anyway.

If you/re finding it too hard and fancy trying a different class, Cleric is the mandatory Imbalanced Walk In The Park route.

Cleric is what I've found is a good choice, particularly if you go down the route of taking Imoen, Khalid, Jaheria, Minsc and Dynahir as the rest of your group.

Paladin is probably the best character from start to finish. By that i mean he's still quite easy in the beginning and becomes very strong as he levels.

The monk however is the best class at high levels imo, by the time you reach throne of bhaal he's just untouchable. Unfortunately they're incredibly weak at level 1 which makes things difficult at the start.

The game gets so much easier once your party has leveled up.

got to the friendly arms inn and now this wizard guy keeps walking up to me and attacking me and I seem to have 0 chance of surviving ?
Did you pick up Imoen, Tzar and Monterron or what ever he's called in the first map outside Candlekeep? If you have them it's becomes a bit easier. And remember space bar is your friend!

Wow am i glad i read this thread.... thought "i fancy playing this now, what's this GOG all about"... went to the GOG site, turns out i already have a login, and on that login is the original stronghold game i must have bought over 2 years ago! w00t forgot all about that :D

Oh and just got baldurs gate as well

EDIT: can anyone confirm if stronghold crusader is ok on windows 7?
Original stronghold has XP, vista, windows 7 in the list of compatible OSs but crusader only has XP and vista (presumably if it works in vista though it'll work in windows 7 too)

I freaking loved my Ranger in BG2 - Arrows of Dispelling meant I was the bane of any Mage.

Edit - Paladin was great too. There's some uber 2-handed weapon you can get from a Dragon as part of a quest line that makes you insanely strong. +5, with some protection and dispelling abilities.

Tell you what though - I miss games like BG2. The scope, variety, replayability and (although I'm loathed to use the phrase) "X" factor which Dragon Age missed, can't say what it is though.
