Is my 6870 wired up right?

The nforce 610i chipset is PCIE 2.0 so that's not the issue.

Edit - Ok Ignore that, it may well need a bios update as the onboard nvidia graphics only uses pcie 1.1 so it is possible that the initial bios only supports 1.1. The chipset certainly supports 2.0 though.

Cool, glad it is working :). Nice to know the slot wasn't a problem afterall. Could be the onboard auto detection is a bit ropey (to use the technical term).

Let us know how it performs in game for you.

Yep I will, I know a lot of people on here would have said 470 or nothing, but I value my electricity bill, for all of you who don`t know 150w 24/7 will add up to about £120 a year.I still have a lot of upgrades to do till I am happy, but a small budget is limiting me, I am still on lga 775 for god sakes, and using stock cooling, It looks like it might be a expensive christmas.

Nothing wrong with 775 - I'm still using a q9550 and very happy with it clocked at 4ghz :D

Yeh this bios is really messed up, it just booted back to onboard to finalize the windows 7 install. Oh well once I actually get logged in, I am pretty sure It shall work fine.
Just putting up with a 100% fan is rather annoying, I can hear it from the other room.

Silly question but you don't have both connected at the same time do you?

Hi mate,

I tried a 5850 with my P5N-E SLI last week and it wouldnt work, no video and 100% fan, at least yours got into windows! Definately seems like the older nvidia chipsets dislike the new ATI cards from all the forum posts about it. However, unlike mine i suspect yours will have a bios update that should fix it, so you might try that!

Finally got into windows, I hope it does not reset to onboard after a cold boot. That will really annoy me.
Anyway first screenie

methinks the fan noise is due to the driver isnt installed yet (i believe fan speed it controlled by the driver), so the card is just defaulting to max.

Umm just did cold restart, and it has gone back to onboard.
I really need a way to fix this, have no clue why it just randomly does not detect my card when I cold boot after shutting down.

The PCI-E is running at x13
What PSU do you have?
Might be the motherboard...

What does the x13 mean?
I am using asus p5n73am- pretty old but should support it, there is a bios update but it just says added cpu support.

and I have a ocz modxtreme 600 w

Umm yeh, fyi just managed to boot took 30 minutes of fiddling.
I guess I need a new motherboard, damn this is going to be costly, I can recycle this one+ processor+ ram+ old gpu for my htpc.
