Anyone excited for windows phone 7?

I just don't get it.. The animations look super swish, but why such large tiles? And why is everything off to one side? Fingerprint sized icons are pretty much the perfect way of selecting something on a touch screen phone - why try something different for the sake of being different? Just acknowledge it's the best method and stick with it. Android did and they don't appear to be suffering as a result.

The whole thing confuses me. I really don't see what advantages this brings to the table over Android. Shame as the videos showing the fluidity between applications looked unrivalled, it actually looked quite fun to use.

Phoned up T-mobile this morning and was told mid november to december, phoned up Orange and they are getting one to me on monday.

Weird.

Got my omnia 7 today from Orange and it rocks, best phone ever.

Everything about it is awesome.

Posting from it now

I could not get a Mozart to play with yesterday. But managed to get my hands on dummys for all the current devices bar the Samsung. I was given a samsung device, but it seems that it was not the correct model after further research.

I did manage to get hands on with a working Trophy from Vodaphone, and boy was it slick to use. Even more so than the engineering hack from an MS engineer that I played with at IPexpo.

The Alu unibody of the Mozart makes it the mose appealing to me today. Orange are supposed to call me at 10am today to arrange my new handset. :D

WHaaaaat  I hope they turn out to be wrong, my current hand set is falling apart, it might not live that long!

Orange called me this morning at the assigned time, and informed me that they do not have the mozart available as promised. So, the guy is due to call me back this afternoon to let me know if they have become available since this morning. They are apparently due in any moment.

I expect that will mean Tuesday delivery earliest. :)

Check out the Anandtech review of the OS. Its a really good article.

At the end they have a battery life section and the US Samsung with Super AMOLED 4" has a real battery life problem. Maybe the Omnia 7 will have the same issue..

Just been reading through the Anandtech article, pretty good review. This is starting to look promising (though not enough to tempt me away from my HD2 and Android just yet). Like others have said lets see what happens with take up and App support - the market is hugely competitive and I fear that MS may just have too much catching up to do.

Just picked up my HD7 and i'm very pleased with the phone itself the design is nice, it's large but doesn't feel bulky in any way. The menu's are all well designed and the software runs smoothly.

The let down and so far the only problem I see with it is the app store both with regards to range and pricing, hopefully both of which Microsoft will see fit to remedy in order to keep up with android and apple.

Hmm. Unwhelmed with theLG win7 phone that a mate got as part of his job.

The screen was good, the idea of hubs etc are good but I think that they missed the point that with a bit more interaction then they could add more information and use slightly less linear animations.

In terms of functionality there's not much that the apple and google offers don't provide however I can see the xbox gaming community quickly making versions of their games for the W7 phone platform.

Errrk, disregard my comments on the Samsung! It seems I was being shown the wrong device!!

Been doing more research today, and i had a look on Orange at the Samsung, and that was not the device I was handed as a "dummy unit" in the Orange shop.

It does look quite nice, not as smart as the Mozart, and the flash and camera are poorer and no HTC hub (obviously). However, the screen is larger, and also is amoled. However, its battery is only 1500mah compared to the 1300mah on the smaller screen Mozart. No HD voice on Mozart, but it is available on the Samsung (does anyone really care about HD voice?!)

This is a much tougher choice now :( I made the "mistake" of going non-htc when i got my TG01. Whilst far from being a terrible device, it does lack the development/addons you get with an HTC branded device.

To make things worse, the Samsung is in stock today, and the Mozart is due in anytime. Although, that has been the line I have been given by Orange since Friday...

So in comparison, it's very hard to choose between the two!

HTC 7 Mozart
3.7 inch S-LCD
1300mah battery
8 megapixel color camera
Auto focus and Xenon flash
Size - 119 x 60.2 x 11.9
8gig internal memory - no expansion
3.5 mm stereo audio jack
Standard micro-USB (5-pin micro-USB 2.0)
No Radio feature

Samsung Omnia
4.0 inch AMOLED
1500mah battery
5 megapixel color camera
Auto focus and LED flash
Size - 122.4 x 64.2 x 10.99
8gig internal memory - no expansion
3.5 mm stereo audio jack
Standard micro-USB (5-pin micro-USB 2.0)
FM Radio feature

These devices seem to trade punches well enough, and even when rolling down the spec list there is no clear winner. Some will say the Larger device, AMOLED screen and FM radio function will swing it for the Samsung, whilst others will say the smaller size overall, Xenon flash/better camera on the HTC swings it the other way. In terms of os function, and smoothness, there is nothing between them.

The HD7 is coming up short in the Reviews I have read so far. Here is a quote from Engadget

If there's one thing that really stood out to us, it was the quality of the Omnia 7's Super AMOLED display. It should be no surprise anymore that it delivers stellar black levels and eye-twisting viewing angles, but it still managed to take our breath away set against its WP7 contemporaries. The 7 Mozart doesn't do too badly for itself, but the HD7 ended up a distant third in our eyes. Closeup video of all three displays follows after the break.

Only 8gig memory!? Well that kills them for me.
The Mozart has a Xenon flash but the camera is rubbish, such a pity.

Tmobile have just told me that the reason they aren't selling them is because they failed their software tests, anyone heard of any problems?
