6870 is here! for £170, WTF?? HELP!!

What is wrong with this site & the regular posters???!!! someone posts a question....it would be nice all round if answers were related & constructive.

Instead, time after time you have to wade thru page after page of nothing more than ego bitching back & forth between the long term members. Explains why post counts are so high. I don't know any other site with such immaturity. Get a grip comes to mind.

Yeee ha! lmao!! what this guy said... rant shud be over now. AWESOME CARD, AWESOME PRICE, buy it. choose a motherboard and hopefully find one you like unlike me... i am destined to struggle lol:p

There's no performance difference between x8 or x16.

I'm actually replacing my xfx 5970 black edition with 2 6870s, they should be here arriving sometime this morning.

I paid £350 for 2 6870s = )

How much did you get for the 5970? And yes, there is a small performance hit when PCI-E slots work at 8x. It's 3% to be precise.

Haven't I answered your questions already? The thread will be going strong whether you want it or not anyway.

Mate... I know thats so sweet, cant afford both mine at once. But yeah, this is why im so confused.... I get one person saying,
"if you dont have x16 dual, dont get sli, full stop"
"8 x 8 x is fine but there will be 2-10% performance shaved off each card"

Then I have you saying it makes no difference... lmao!

Couple this with the infamous "is crossfire worth it" and i get...
"driver issues, data lag, extra power +other issues, just stick with single"
"reduced performance if pci 1.0, half combined memory, ect
then "my 2 x 4870s outperform a card at over £100 of their value"

I really don't care anymore, I think im just gonna go for it and try for myself - i cant get my head round it without properly looking at the tech myself as no one (including me), or evidently the large majority, really dont seem to understand. Or most people would give me same advice surely?

IM GONNA GO CROSSFIRE ANYWAY BABY, see you in the lobbies!
im still after a good mobo recomendation *hint hint, my post question*

Innit, im kind of getting the vibe from the ocuk forums aint what it used to be, people keep insulting eachother and making bitchy comments just like my mrs does..... *"whats that baby? No i'm not writing about you.... love you hunny munchkin!"

Gonna go for a spin on my bike I think... Its that time of the night. thanks for your help guys

Theres been an influx of pro-ATI/AMD, troll accounts recently - many I suspect to be dupes (or people banned under a new name) due to the obvious prior knowledge of people and long past threads on here and sharing the use of language, spelling mistakes, etc. as certain other posters.

No I think you're in the wrong forum...the guy wanted answers is all...& I was following with interest...take your ego crap elsewhere instead of hijacking a thread & filling it full of crap?
ps...3% eh? (jesus wept)

I can't honestly understand you. I just answered the guy's question regarding 8x/8x vs 16x/16x performance, it's 3% at least with any card, it will be more with Crossfire configurations (although not enough to be really bothered about). Are you the same with taxes when the Government raises them by a few percent? It has nothing to do with my ego, the performance difference is there, measurable but negligible. I pointed it out in a the earlier post but I wouldn't be surprised if you're just crapping around not having read the thread.

The thread will be going strong whether you want it or not anyway.

BTW, but the above I did not mean that I will be trolling regardless of OP. I don't actually like contributing in AMD/Nvidia discussions because they never end peacefully and there's no objectivity in them like 100% of the time. I'm just pretty sure that the dispute won't stop, whether the OP wants it or not.

EDIT:
I was curious why you'd insult me but now it's obvious, when I've read through your posts in this thread. I at least tried to help the OP, you just contributed to forum trolling. Thank you very much.

Only the first screen is relevant and it's on the P55 platform with internal PCI-E controller on the CPU. It does improve performance a little. The difference is there, I've done the testing myself. The OP couldn't distinguish between PCI-E 1.1 and 2.0 performance, that's what I tried to explained in my earlier posts.

AAhhh beautiful.... I love my triumph. Anyone here bikers? Think I had a therad on here once chatting to triumph owners... at least its a refreshing change from amd/nvidia fanboys lol.

whats this 'trolling' then Rroff? ive never heard of it up till i made this thread? is a troll someone who has been banished? like, a troll banished to the fiery depths of mordor?

my spellings terrible, my wireless keyboard is PARTLY to blame, anyone wud spot me from a mile away anyway my dielect is a little random at times.

Plenty of plausiable reasons sure... but at the end of the day as an impact on the average consumer its no different to what nVidia did...

I don't really care either way I just found it interesting how die hard AMD fans defend it to the hilt whilest not even the most diehard nVidia fan even tried to defend it when nVidia did it.

If they'd have called them 6770 and 6830 as they properly are no one would have blinked an eye lid.

If AMD was out to fleece people the best way to go about it would have been to rebrand the old cards as new after milking the EOL panic buyers. It makes no sense go to all the trouble to build newer and better cards only to sell them for less money.

I don't like the GPU naming system and I never have, but if someone was to buy 6870 over a 5870 AMD are saving them money, and anyone expecting to upgrade a £300 card with a £200 card is being a little optimistic.

hhhmmmm yeah £160 is a little over my budget (im guessing ocuk wont be restocking at £100 as everywhere else is selling for like £170), defo not worth it with no usb 3, amd 6 core or sata 3 support (not tht sata 3 is so great yet).

Thanks for those specs though mate, helped me grasp a lot better. i am sorry kruga but thats why i came on here - to get info so i can be as wise as you. And i thank you for your help. I guess the x58s or whatver dont interest my mind too much because im only looking at amd sockets/chips.
Im getting that pci1.1 is same bandwidth as a x8 slot, which is roughly 4% slower... right??

I might get this board... seems well cheap - thoughts please (im not sure if im allowed to post to other sites on here so ill just give you the name)

ASRock 890GX Extreme3 (Socket AM3) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard
amd 6 core support, ddr3 x 2, sata3, x8 x8 crossfire - for £87, and yes i know asrock arent the best quality
