Travelling to work

Not sure if the next question should be asked in Motors but it's related to this topic...

At the moment i drive a 1.4l Citroen C2 and the MPG on the motorway is terrible. I don't drive like a crazy lunatic and tend to cruise at about 75 depending on the flow of the traffic. I drive 45 miles per day (22.5 there and 22.5 back)

Would getting a better car with a bigger engine give me more MPG and in turn save me ££ or would it actually cost me more?

Thanks.
The C2 is a town car and will give poor MPG on the motorway as you found out - as well as being quite uncomfortable I expect. If you can change to a more suitable car like a diesel saloon (Mondeo TDCi being the obvious safe option) for the same cost as selling yours, then it would be worth it imo.

Not at all!

The 1 hour journey in to work always sees me seated, and I listen to music whilst reading the Metro. 1.5 journey home (longer as my route ensures I get a seat), lets me get through 2 / 4 episodes of a 40min / 20min show, which is especially handy if I have shows I want to watch that my gf doesn't. This leaves me more time to game once I get home. :D

Ditto :D

This is what i do during my commute to work, so far i have gone through 2 season of chuck and family guys:D

Out of interest Krooton where do you live in London?

was zero as i cycled the 5 miles each way, but my bike was stolen a month ago :(

now its about 120 quid for a tube pass and 500 quid for a new bike

DOH

£100 a month just for work travel alone.

£25 a week in diesel. 41 mile round trip each day. Nearly all motorway though and I drive very economically for work.

I make money as I expense my monthly subway pass, which saves me spending on fares for personal use and I frequently ride in anyway :p

Well I'm on a new IT apprenticeship for Microsoft qualifications which I've just started. So right now I get my £36.50 a week on expenses.

But going to have to look into monthly passes soon. It's probably going to be about £140 a month altogether. Very annoying when I have my driving license but can't afford insurance right now.

Sucks but it's only till February and I should start working from home in the evening next month which I should be able to stick with after getting my Microsoft qualifications.

£48

4 x £12 green zone rider in leeds. I use it on sat and sometimes sunday to go into town. Thought about getting a car but the cost of parking in leeds alone costs more than a bus pass! Then there insurance, tax, petrol and actually buying the car
