HTC Desire HD (Ace)

Do you use the phone? :eek:

Yeah. I make around an hours worth of calls per day, send around 20 texts and check gmail quite a few times.

All I've done is turn of the location service. I do wait for the battery to hit sub 10% before recharging. Had the phone nearly 2 years :)

Went to work with DHD today, after work( around 8 hours ) my battery was around 50%. Checked in settings and I had no reception for around 70% of time...that means that loads of battery was used on searching for signal :/
But still not bad result ... maybe it will get even better :)

How do I check whats the CPU usage on the phone ?
And is there an app that can show me battey status in % on battery icon in notification bar ?

I'm still undecided. But it is not looking great.

It really does frustrate me that manufacturers skimp on the physical compartment size for the battery. Because that is what the problem is here. You may be able to squeeze another couple 100 more mAh capacity from a 3rd party battery but it will hardly rock the world in terms of extra battery life. The chosen small compartment size is what cripples the capacity of battery which can be used, lithium ion batteries have a high energy density to begin with and so to get a larger capacity cell the cells need to be made physically larger.

Unless a company releases an extra large battery with a custom fit back which fits the Desire HD I don't think we will see much of a gain in battery life with these slightly higher capacity batteries.

The decision to use such a small battery in the early design of the Desire HD was idiotic.

I dunno about this battery situation. My expectations were very low (i.e. <1 day's use on a charge), but actually I'm getting a little better than that. Add to this the fact that the phone is new, so obviously I'm playing about with it a lot more than I would normally. Also, I'm conditioning the battery, so with any luck performance will improve.

This is all without any effort on my part to make the device more efficient (i.e. turn off wireless, etc.). In fairness, the battery life is poor compared with my Nokia 5800, but as long as the DHD battery can last a full working day (as it appears able to do) then I'm happy.

Ginga

I've never used a phone (smart phone) where I expect to get more than a days use without charging....What on earth are you guys doing? Camping in the woods for days with no power outlets?
Is it really an issue that you have to charge your phone when you go home and sleep at night?

Yes!

1. Don't see why I should have to remember to charge my phone daily;
2. My phone is also my alarm clock;
3. Re. no. 2, there are no plug sockets near the bed which can mean an unhappy girlfriend and/or baby by the time I get out of bed and switch it off.
4. Would like to know when I'm away overnight that the phone will last until I get back the following day.

Regarding the battery life; I got 21 hours out of its first full charge and 17 hours into its second charge and I've still got 30% left :)

I'm gutted, there's all you lucky people playing with your new DHD and I've just found out mobilefun have pushed back their release date from tomorrow to next Tuesday :eek::eek:

update from me, ive had mine running for 12 hours, some surfing, few calls, some texting, angry birds session. and its now sitting at 52% remaining.
huge improvement from the first charge, im happier now. this is my 3rd battery charge.

I'm currently in talks with Vodafone trying to get my hands on one of these.
They finally conceded to me in the whole FUP debacle and so I've had my contract terminated a year early and we're trying to come to an agreement on a new deal that'll keep me with VF. They're not trying very hard though!

Best they are offering on an 18mnth contract is £35pm with 600mins, unlimited texts and 1GB web, the phone is free though.

Not exactly world beating.

At least they are offering deals, I got a letter saying 'Here is your PAC, goodbye' :D

It's better than I was offered on a 18 month contract, he wouldn't budge from £40 a month. I accepted a 12 month contract, £40 a month and a free phone from the same person. :D

RE battery life, mine has been unplugged now for 36 hours and is still at 35%. My usage probably isn't typical though (screen has been on for 2h 4m of that 36 hours).

Very very pleased with this phone.
