Flash lights to get others to move over?

Why do people insist on taking everything they read as black & white & set in stone??

You seem to make your mind up along the lines that I'm constantly in the fast lane of a motorway, kids in the back, holding other traffic up & SLAMMING on my brakes.

Why post something that says one thing, and then immediately back pedal when you get pulled up for it?

If someone is hogging a lane with no one in the lane to the left, I will give them a flash, if no response, I will either undertake slowly, or flash again.

If I am going along in the fast lane, overtaking people at a steady pace doing more speed then they are, and someone comes flying up behind me wanting to get past, they can sodding well wait until I finished my manoeuvre. I will not SLOW DOWN for them, if there is a big enough gap for me to pull into on the left without slowing down, then I shall let them pass, otherwise they can wait as i'm doing nothing wrong.

People that get p****d off at people for driving correctly need to grow up and get some patience, or get off the ******g road. Jesus.

If I get flashed (not that I am likely to see it with the crap rear visibility of the Octavia) then I make sure to pull over as soon as possible... followed by dropping two gears and nailing it as soon as Mr 2.0 TDi pulls along side.

Immature? yes, but it makes me smile :o

Funny enough, it's always mr 2.0TDI or mr 320D OMGWTF rocket ship that seem to do this, cue them running out of puff not much after a 100mph.

He didn't post that, he posted something else then somebody misread it assumed he meant that and commented, then another person commented based on the misconceived comment. Ahh internet forums, the only place you can see Chinese whispers in written form

He's on about me lumping together in one line how I press on the brakes with tailgaters & at the same time hate tailgaters when I've got kids in the car...as said earlier...he seems to like to read things to the extreme & all wrapped up together....(Has the guy ever heard of using your brakes to light up as opposed to nearly being rear-ended? Give me some ***** credit!) Cheers all the same Uber.

I've re-read your comment over a thousand times uber & it's still confusing me.

haha, what I meant was that somebody misread what you said, misunderstood it (because they misread it) then posted based on that, then another person read that post and replied based on it. And I thought it was funny, kinda like the game Chinese whispers.

I flash BMW and Audi drivers, because there all **** heads, and i leave them for dead in my VTEC snizzle.

Fo' Sho' Brah.

I've flashed occasionally but its usually something blatant like someone sitting in the right hand lane when its quiet doing 10-20MPH under the limit.

Undertake = overtake on the left, no?

Yes.

And it's legal, contrary to popular opinion. The highway code says that you can pass on the left on a motorway, provided that you do it safely and so on. It also says that you can pass on the left on an ordinary road, provided that the driver you are passing is indicating right at the time.

If the road ahead is clear and someone approaches me from behind travelling at a speed greater to mine I will move the left assuming there is space (even if those in the lane to the left are travelling slower then me). Once the car behind has passed I can then move back out to travel faster than the lane I'm currently sat in.

If it's not possible to move into a lane on my left (busy stream of traffic) I will continue ahead until safe to move over. Increase in speed dependant on condition and how the person behind if reacting.

If lane ahead and to my left is busy then the person behind just needs to wait like I am doing, if he starts acting a tit and tries to park his car in my boot then yes I guess I too would start playing silly buggers with him.

Simples :D

No, it doesn't, it says:

The Highway Code said:

Do not overtake unless you are sure it is safe and legal to do so. Overtake only on the right...

268

Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake.

(emphasis mine)

Intriguing. I was sure it was allowed... and didn't someone post from the highway code earlier in the thread quoting the bits saying it was OK?

Hmm. Can't find the page I read that quoted it as being OK, but unadvisable.

Oh well, looks like I've misadvised a few people...

It also says:

Overtake only when it is safe and legal to do so. You should:
-snip-
> only overtake on the left if the vehicle in front is signalling to turn right, and there is room to do so

That covers passing a car turing right, and in the part you linked it says:

That covers undertaking (a car doing <70mph) on the motorway (emphasis mine)
