Hi Folks,
Just got me a new Ocz SSD today and Iam unsure what to do next.

When I installed win7 I used IDE mode not AHCI , but I have managed to
enable AHCI in windows then set it in the Bios and all appears to be fine.

Question:
Is it ok to just clone this image onto my SSD?

I really dont want to have to do a fresh install as sooooooo many games will need a complete re-install because of the retarded DRM pish.

I was going todo this with my ssd but windows will still think its a normal hdd and treat it like 1. but with a clean install windows will adjust some things cos it will be seeing it as a ssd and not a hdd.

Same here (IE. toyed with the idea of cloning). But came to the same conclusion as Phil2008. I'll be ordering a new SSD this coming Monday.

Worth mentioning (maybe) that even the latest version of Acronis True Image (IE.2011) still does not handle the partition alignment correctly in all cases for SSD's. Even though on Acronis's site, it says that 2011 is SSD friendly! You need to dig about a bit on their forum and finally you can pull up a post/s where an Acronis mod points this out and comments "available in a future release"!

So don't think I'l both to update my version of Acronis TI2010 until this has finally been sorted.

Hmm , alignment .... what a pain

1. Used acronis to take an image of my win7 stuck it on another HD
2. Installed my SSD and disconnected all other drives
3. Stuck in win7 dvd and installed it on SSD
4. When install finished shutdown PC.
5. Reconnected my other HD's , stick in acronis boot CD , power up PC.
6. Used acronis to restore the image(volume restore) that was taken earlier onto the C partition of the SSD (there will be a system reserved partition as well but just ignore it, DO NOT RESTORE THE HIDDEN PARTITION)
7. Reboot PC , alignment is correct since win7 installer set it up and I didnt have to re-install loads of apps.

Yep... That is one work around that I've seen posted on the Acronis forum. But as you say, what a pain.

I've read on some other forum that if you use True Image 11's Disk Backup option in "disk mode" to backup the entire SSD, it'll retain the alignment upon restoring it.

However, would this not write to all of the SSD's sectors degrading performance?

Took about 40 mins or there about to do and was a lot less hassle than having to re-install a ton of apps and games

Surely with that method you don't need to install Windows 7? Just get to the point where it makes the new partition and formats it, then quit and restore the partition from another OS.

That's what I thought he meant as well!
